Secret of the Hired Boyfriend by Misty Rain Chapter 7

Chapter 7
Mike was made speechless, but he quickly made a comeback. “You left halfway and left a bad impression on the client. It’s because you tarnished our company’s reputation. Not because you’re capable of securing the deal. Do you understand now?”
Olivia stared hard at Mike’s mouth as he spoke. The frustration and anger in her heart mounted gradually. She clenched her fists tightly, digging her nails into her palms. She wanted to use the pain to calm down.
“If you think this is unfair, you’re free to complain to my superior or the higher-ups,” said Mike. “See if they’ll agree to give you a paycheck! You’re just a small…”
There was a loud slap, causing Mike to stop mid-sentence. He held his cheek and stared incredulously at Olivia. “How dare you slap me?”
Immediately after Mike finished speaking, Olivia grabbed the cup of coffee on the table and splashed the contents on Mike’s face. “You pervert!” shouted Olivia. “You’re a perv who only knows how to use women to sleep with clients. You’ll pay for it sooner or later!”
“You…”
However, Olivia did not let Mike speak. She grabbed the file on the table and threw it at Mike’s face. She shouted, “I’m done!”
After Olivia was done hitting Mike, she ran out of the office in anger. She finally stopped on the sidewalk after she had gone a long distance from the office.
The sun was as glaring as always, and the traffic was heavy. Olivia stood on the sidewalk and stared blankly. She had calmed down.
Then fear and a sense of injustice rushed over her. She could not stop her tears from falling.
Why? Olivia only wanted to do her job well. She had already held back her temper and tongue, but Mike still targeted her. She only wanted a quiet and peaceful life, but Blaine the jerk also targeted her and tried every means to humiliate her.
Olivia did not even understand what she had done wrong.
Olivia felt drained as she sat down on the sidewalk. Cars zoomed past her. Nobody stopped to check on her. She was merely an ordinary person in the crowd.
Olivia buried her face in her knees and cried hard, releasing all the pent-up pressure in her heart.
Suddenly, there was a shadow above her head.
Olivia was a little stunned. Then, absentmindedly, she lifted her head and saw a shiny pair of men’s leather shoes.
Olivia looked up. Her eyes were still filled with tears. She sat all alone on the sidewalk like an abandoned puppy.
Jack did not expect to meet Olivia again under such circumstances.
“What are you doing here?” Olivia wiped her tears from her face. She appeared somewhat distressed. She was usually strong and never cried in front of others. She never expected someone else to see her embarrassment.
Jack stood over Olivia like a divine being who looked down at her from heaven. Jack looked brilliant, while Olivia looked dejected and embarrassed. Their contrast was stark.
The two of them seemed separated by a layer of invisible rift. One look and it was apparent that they belonged to different worlds.
Before Jack said anything, the building’s security suddenly rushed over. They were pointing at Olivia and saying something. But the noise from the traffic was too loud, so Olivia could not make out what they said.
Olivia quickly stood up. She looked frantic and lost.
Of course, Jack noticed that too. He said to Olivia, “Get in my car.”
The two security guards watched Olivia get into Jack’s car. They wanted to stop her, but Jack’s cold gaze made their legs feel like lead, so they did not dare to take a step forward.
Jack turned around and got into his car. He stepped on the gas, and the vehicle sped off.
After driving for a while, Jack finally asked, “Who bullied you?”
The day before, Olivia had been very eloquent. Today, she was such a sorry sight.
Olivia sniffled and complained softly. “It’s my superior from work.”
She had cried so hard earlier that her voice was hoarse.
“My internship period is almost over, but he fired me anyway. I couldn’t control myself and hit him.” Olivia felt both angry and unfairly treated.
Jack raised an eyebrow. “You didn’t do your job well?”
“No way! It’s obvious that he…” Olivia swallowed her words when she thought of what had happened that night. She did not want the whole world to hear about such a humiliating incident.
Jack waited for Olivia to continue, but she remained silent.
So he spoke again. “What a coincidence,” he said. “I was fired too.”
Olivia was shocked. She snapped her head toward him. “Why were you fired?”
Jack pulled up his car to the side of the road. Then, he picked up a piece of paper from the backseat and showed it to Olivia. “Because of this.”
Olivia took the piece of paper and read it carefully. It was a bill. She counted the number of zeros in the figure. “One, two, three, four, five, six…2.5 million dollars?”
A bad premonition suddenly rose inside her.
Jack took back the bill. Sounding upset, he said, “My company wants to sue me for appropriating company funds without approval. So now, if I can get back that 2.5 million dollars, I can avoid prison time.”
