My Rich Hot and Infertile (Or Maybe Not) Husband Chapter 281

Chapter 281
Celeste found this somewhat amusing but respected Old Mr. Campbell’s wishes.
For his entire life, Old Mr. Campbell had lived in his hometown, and J City was the farthest from home he had ever been.
Owen deliberately slowed down, and Old Mr. Campbell’s cloudy eyes were glued to the scenery moving outside the window – J City’s dense buildings and endless prosperity.
After a while, he sighed, “This place has developed so well; it’s very prosperous.”
Celeste felt a sudden pang of sadness and whispered, “Grandpa David, if you like it here, you can stay for a few more days.”
Old Mr. Campbell smiled and jokingly said, “I didn’t expect to have such good fortune at my age.”
Then, he suddenly reached into his pocket and took out a Ferrero Rocher chocolate, handed it to Celeste, and whispered to her like a child, “I found this in your sister’s room. She said it’s chocolate and tastes really good. But my teeth are broken, so I can’t chew it. You tell me if it’s delicious.”
Celeste was stunned.
She didn’t know much about Old Mr. Campbell. She didn’t often visit her hometown, and when she did, she wouldn’t stay long. Her deepest memory was when Old Mr. Campbell took a candy from a brown paper bag and gave it to her.
The candy wasn’t the best she’d had, but Old Mr. Campbell handed it to her like a treasure. She kind of wanted to spit it out, but when she saw Old Mr. Campbell’s kind face asking if it was sweet, she swallowed it down and said, “Yes.”
Old Mr. Campbell couldn’t help but smile.
Now, meeting again, Old Mr. Campbell’s hair had turned entirely white.
But when he took out the chocolate, treasuring it and giving it to her, Celeste was suddenly brought back to her childhood, and her heart ached
with a bitter sweetness.
Seeing Old Mr. Campbell’s expectant look, Celeste took the chocolate and unwrapped it. The chocolate had been in Old Mr. Campbell’s pocket for too long and had melted a bit. She didn’t say anything, took a bite, and whispered, “It’s yummy.”
Old Mr. Campbell’s eyes crinkled as he laughed. “I’ll get you a few more next time, just in case your dad is playing favorites.”
Liam cocked his head, watching the two of them, deep in thought.
Old Mr. Campbell noticed his gaze, immediately covered the chocolate in Celeste’s hand, and glared at him. “No chocolate for you!”
Liam was speechless.
Owen couldn’t help but laugh, but quickly noticed Liam’s warning look. He immediately stifled his laughter and focused on driving. Since Old Mr. Campbell’s arrival, Liam had arranged for two housekeepers to take care of him.
Whenever Celeste had free time, she would take Old Mr. Campbell to visit the sights in J City, and Liam would occasionally join, but because of his busy work schedule, he had trouble making time for it. Even when he did find the time, Old Mr. Campbell wasn’t very fond of him.
During the outings, Liam would be either carrying bags or running errands for Old Mr. Campbell, never letting Celeste lift a finger.
If Liam did something that didn’t satisfy Old Mr. Campbell, he wouldn’t show it directly, but instead, he’d casually say, “Young people nowadays are just too delicate. Can’t get anything done right. When I was young, I was very capable.”
If Liam showed any signs of being unhappy, Old Mr. Campbell would say, “Kids these days have such tempers. Back then, no girl would marry a guy with such a bad temper. Even if they did get married, the wife would end up running off with someone else.”
Liam finally realized that, by sticking up for Celeste, he had actually brought back a troublesome enemy.
