My Rich Hot and Infertile (Or Maybe Not) Husband Chapter 277

Chapter 277
Quantum had super high standards for their candidates, so this year they teamed up with a few top schools in the country to cultivate these talents and inject some fresh energy into the company.
Angel was chosen as one of the spokespeople for this project and had to go spread the word at these universities. There were two reasons: one, the school she graduated from was one of Quantum’s main targets; two, she was kinda well–known among college students and had an inspiring backstory, going from being an orphan to working for Quantum. So her performance on this project was highly anticipated.
Celeste graduated in the same year, but her school’s wasn’t as distinguished as Angel’s. But there Angel was, joining Quantum and getting this cool project. This got their relatives a bit jelly.
When the folks were chatting about it, they couldn’t help but gush, “Who would’ve thought Angel would become the pride of the Campbell family? She landed such a sweet gig right after graduating!”
“Well, she’s got her dad to thank for raising her right.”
“I mean, education alone doesn’t cut it. Look at her sister. She went to a great school too, married into a rich family, and even does TV shows now.”
“Yeah, but she’s using her in–laws‘ money to make those shows.”
“Remember when Celeste got into a top university? Her mom almost couldn’t stop bragging about it! Such a shame though, that she got married and her career’s a hot mess now.”
Angel listened with a satisfied grin. She knew that they were just trying to kiss up to Shawn, but all the praise felt pretty good, especially since most attention used to be on Celeste. She gladly accepted the compliments, then carefully said, “I just care more about my career. I don’t want to rely on my family. My dad has done so much for me, so I can’t disappoint him.”
Then Aunt Latonia, jumping in, asked, “Angel, didn’t you already get your salary within a month of joining?”
Angel glanced at Latonia and gave a slight smile, “Auntie, I’ve only been there for two weeks. I haven’t even got paid yet. The money for Grandpa David’s clothing came from some leftover scholarship I got from college and some of what I earned from parttime jobs. Your son did pretty well in school too. I bet he also got some scholarships and bought you some nice things, huh?”
Latonia went silent. She’d never seen her son’s scholarships and cursed Angel in her heart. She then forced herself to say, “Well, of course, my son is very considerate.”
Celeste had been standing at the door the whole time. These relatives really didn’t “disappoint” her. Even from outside the yard, passersby could hear their gossip.
She had turned around to leave, but Liam grabbed her wrist and rang the doorbell.
Shortly, a teen girl came to the door and, when she saw the handsome man and gorgeous woman outside, she was caught off guard and asked, “Who’re you looking for?”
Celeste recognized her as Latonia’s daughter, Eileen Campbell, probably still in middle school. She was skinny and extremely shy, nothing like her sassy and bold mother. Celeste had even tutored her before.
Celeste smiled at her, “Eileen, we’re here to pick up Grandpa David.”
Little girl snapped into realization and asked, “You’re Letti?”
After that, her excitement skyrocketed and she dashed inside, shouting “Letti’s back! Letti’s back!”
Latonia saw her so excited and snapped at her, “What are you shouting for? It’s not like you’ve never seen her before.” Just as she said that, Liam walked in holding Celeste’s hand.
Everyone instantly went silent.
Didn’t they say they were bringing Old Mr. Campbell to them later? How come Celeste’s here with her husband?
Liam had never attended a Campbell family gathering before. When they got married, Skyler thought the Campbell family had too many relatives and their behavior might be inappropriate for a wedding and would embarrass the Reeds, so they didn’t invite them.
So a lot of them were meeting Liam for the first time.
They bad–mouthed Celeste for not being “ambitious” and marrying right after graduation, but deep down, weren’t they all a
bit envious?
Of course, Angel looked the most frustrated out of all of them. But she quickly regained her composure and asked, “Celeste, Liam, what brings you here?”
Before Celeste could respond, Liam chimed in, “My wife cares a lot about family. Since Old Mr. Campbell had just recovered, she asked me to drive over and pick him up.”
Celeste was surprised to see Liam defending her.
This guy…was standing up for her?
Angel’s face dropped a bit. Liam’s tone was indifferent, but every word was dripping with sarcasm. Plus, emphasizing “caring about family” seemed like a jab at Angel’s earlier remark.
“Still, Celeste is very thoughtful,” Shawn happily greeted Liam. “Don’t just stand there. Come in.”
“Mr. Campbell,” Liam stopped Shawn and calmly said, “We brought quite a lot of stuff in the car. We’ll need a few people to help bring it in.”
A few minutes later, everyone looked on in shock as a group unloaded a ton of gifts from the car. There were all sorts of high–end supplements, luxury brands, and even some rare and expensive stuff they’d never seen before.
Everyone was dumbfounded, including Shawn.
“This…isn’t this a bit too much?”
“Celeste said Old Mr. Campbell rarely visits, so she didn’t want him to feel neglected. It doesn’t cost much anyway, just about what she makes from one episode of her TV show.”
Celeste was totally speechless.
