Liam’s face was pretty gloomy.
But Martha seemed unfazed and continued, “I’ve worked for the Reed family for 16 years, and they fired me without any compensation. I have a family to support and my husband doesn’t have a job. It’s like they’re pushing us to a dead end.”
Wesley chimed in, “Bro, that’s just way too much, man. She’s been a loyal employee for so many years and now this? How could anyone accept this?”
Liam said coldly, “I did everything according to the contract, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with my actions. If you’re not satisfied, you can apply for labor arbitration. Threatening me here won’t change anything. I could even sue you for defamation of the company’s image!”
Then he instructed Owen, “Call the police!”
Martha’s face changed, and she panicked a bit.
Skyler told her to take a couple of days off and try pleading with Liam again when he had calmed down.
But just a day later, she received an email from Quantum saying they were going to fire her without compensation. How could she bear this?
She made a scene at the company just to get some compensation, not wanting to be burdened with a lawsuit.
As she hesitated, a voice from the lobby yelled, “Don’t call the police!”
Everyone turned around and saw it was Liam’s mother, Skyler.
Next to Skyler was Celeste, who had some documents with her.
Celeste didn’t expect to run into Skyler just as she entered the company. Skyler treated her coldly since she knew about her taking birth control pills.
When Skyler found out she was there to deliver documents, she called her over.
As they entered the company, they saw Martha on the second floor, yelling that she was going to jump.
Seeing Skyler, Martha saw her as a savior and cried out, “Ma’am, please stand up for me.”
Skyler looked at her disapprovingly. She’d told her to wait a few days, but Martha just couldn’t hold back and came to make a scene!
Now the whole company knew about it. Wasn’t that giving others something to hold against her?
Suppressing her irritation, Skyler said softly, “Martha, come down first. We can sit down and talk things through. Making a scene like this only makes you a laughingstock.”
Martha worked under Skyler, so when she saw her coming, she immediately felt more confident. Hearing her words, she really wanted to come down. But if she did that, how would she continue to trick everyone?
Wesley said quietly, “Auntie, if this could be settled through a chat, why would Martha threaten us with her life?”
That reminded Martha.
If she didn’t make such a fuss today, Skyler wouldn’t have stepped in. This was the perfect time to negotiate. If she backed down now, how would they continue the negotiation?
Skyler would definitely side with her son.
Realizing this, Martha sat back down, “Ma’am, I’ve put my pride aside today. I don’t care if people laugh at me! I’ve given my all to the Reed family for all these years, right? But Mr. Reed fired me for no reason, just because Celeste said something. They even claimed I’ve been skipping work and gave me no compensation Our job depends on reputation. If Mr. Reed fires me so easily, it would ruin my career! If you don’t give me an explanation today, I might as well end my life right here, jumping off Quantum Enterprises’ building to show everyone how the company treats their long-term employees!” Skyler was so mad she could explode, thinking that Martha was so clueless to not see that someone was using her!
The people downstairs were also gossiping
“More than a decade now, being fired without compensation, isn’t Mr. Reed too cold-hearted?”
That’s a light punishment compared to Manuel from the finance department, who’s still in prison”
“Manuel broke the law and deserved it. But what could this poor nanny do? She’s worked for the Reed family for over a decade, and now they fired her just like that. It’s heartbreaking
“I heard it was Celestes idea. She didn’t like the nanny, so she whispered in Mr. Reed’s ear and got her fired”
“How childish could she be?”
Celeste’s eye twitched, thunking What did she do in her past life to deserve this? Why did they always blame her for everything?
What did Martha’s termination have to do with her?
It made it seem like she told Liarn to fire her!
