Isabella’s POV
As I roused from my sleep, it felt like I had been hit by a ton of bricks as both my head and entire body hurt like a bi tc h. The fact that I was in my bed in my apartment sent me a wave of confusion and thus more pressure on my already aching skull. I half expected to wake up on the floor of the club in the most embarrassing experience of my life because I have no recollection of exiting that place myself.
I cursed whatever spirit that brought me home and tucked me in for forgetting to shut the blinds because the harsh sunlight streaming into my room was not helping me in any way. Rolling over with all the strength I could manage I reached for my alarm clock and saw that it was exactly the time I should be leaving my house to get to work.
Groaning, I forced myself up even though it felt like my head needed to be supported by a wheelchair of her own.
Walking into the bathroom, I went to flush my face with as much water as it would take to wake me up as much as possible before making my way out of my room, letting my face air dry. That was when I sensed that there was someone in my apartment and the hairs on my neck stood on attention.
Not only could I smell this person but I could also hear him or her shuffling around in my kitchen. My heart was in my mouth as I braced myself up for a fight, quietly stalking up in the direction of my kitchen. It was a man and his back was to me and immediately’ he turned, I jumped before placing a calming hand on my

accelerating heart and the other hand on the kitchen island for support when I recognized who it was.
I looked up again to see Blake’s face contorted in worry, “I’m sorry I scared you. I brought you home from the club yesterday and you passed out before we even got here.” He glanced up at me, “Sorry you had to sleep in that.” He pointed at my rumpled pantsuit, even though I was no longer wearing the jacket, “It’s just that changing you would have been inappropriate so I didn’t really have a choice.”
I stayed silent as I went over his words. It still didn’t explain how he knew where I lived and how he was suddenly at the club right on time to rescue me as well as why he was still here anyway but I decided to bombard him with all those questions later.
I still had a pounding headache and besides he didn’t seem to mean any harm. It was either he brought me here or I would’ve had to pass out in the club or something or get hit by a car while trying to get my drunk a s s home in a cab.
“Um, do you have a hangover?” Blake asked after I had remained silent.
“Do I look like someone who does not have a hangover?” I replied sarcastically and Blake chuckled.
“Well, I made you fried chicken.”
I raised my brow so high, my headache intensified. “Fried chicken? I don’t believe you.” I said just before my nose finally detected that the kitchen indeed smells like fried chicken. “Well, why on earth did you make me fried chicken?” I asked, genuinely confused.
Blake shrugged, “I heard the oil helps with hangovers? It was the only fried food I could think of at the time after taking a look at your fridge.” He scratched his head, looking anxious all of a

sudden, “I’m sorry for taking all these liberties. You must not like me going through your fridge and using your kitchen.”
I hummed before looking behind him, he followed my eyes and turned back to see the kettle of boiling water.
“Oh.” He said before going to turn off the gas.
“And what is that for?”
“The second part of my hangover remedy.”
I chuckled and he seemed to calm down as he’d been quite tense all this while. “Who says I don’t have my own hangover remedy?”
He raised his brow, “Apart from the painkillers you’re going to have to swallow after this?” He said pointing to a covered dish which I guessed was fried chicken.
“Yes, Blake. Apart from those.”
“You do this often then?”
“Seems like you do too.” I retorted defensively.
“Nope. Betas can’t really afford to get drunk all the time.” He said with a smirk while I flipped him off.
“I don’t get drunk all the time,” I said before going round the island to sit on the chair right in front of my supposed breakfast.
Taking off the cover, I sighed at the scent that wafted into my nose before rinsing my hands in the sink nearby and feeling Blake’ s curious eyes on me, I glanced at him, “This better be good.” I said to which he chuckled and made a ‘go on’ gesture.
I grabbed a clean plate and took out some of the meat, while Blake

looked on in confusion. “What are you doing?”

“I’m not mean, you made that,” I said and not waiting for a reply, I grabbed a drumstick from my plate and sank my teeth into it
before beginning to chew on the piece of tender, juicy flesh now in my mouth.
I hummed in both satisfaction and surprise, turning to Blake with wide eyes at the burst of flavor on my taste buds to which he chuckled softly.
I swallowed before speaking, “I hope you know Beta, I am not in the market for a boyfriend.” I told him and he threw back his head and laughed so hard he had to wipe off tears from the corner of his eyes.
“Who knew the woman of steel could cr ac k jokes?”
I raised a brow at him, “Seriously? Is that what people call me?”
“Nah, I came up with that one on the spot but I won’t be too surprised if you do have a nickname you’re not aware of.”
I rolled my eyes before glancing at his untouched plate, “You gonna eat that?” I asked and he chuckled.
“Nah, I was never going to. Figured you’d want it back soon. enough.”
I glared at his smug face before my face contorted in mock suspicion. “Why? Did you poison it? Have a bite, I insist.” I say, pointing at the smallest piece on the plate and he chuckled at my greediness despite claiming to be worried about poison.
“Fine.” He said with his hands raised in mock surrender before eating it.

I cleared the dishes after that and loaded up the plates in the dishwasher before drinking the tea that Blake had made and finally aspirin while Blake said he’ll wait for me to get ready so he can. drive me to work since my own car was still at the club parking lot.
Apart from the fact that I was incredibly late for work, knowing someone was in my living room waiting for me to get ready fueled me to hurry faster and soon I had dressed up and was ready to go. I grabbed everything I’d need as well as my car keys since I’d have to go collect my car later. It had been quite the search before I finally found those keys though. Those and my cellphone.
When I got to the living room, Blake was flipping through a magazine I knew was from the small bookcase I had in my living room and dropped it upon sighting me. “Sorry, I got bored.” He murmured. “Time to go?”
I nodded and he nodded too, getting up.

your life.” he grinned,
I rolled my eyes and he chuckled before going open the door. I locked it behind him and he led the way to his car. After dropping me off, he went his own way while I went to my office.
I half expected to see Alexander inside when I opened the door and when that did not happen, I expected the phone to ring at any time with him at the other end ready to yell at me for my tardiness and threaten to give my job to someone else.
I t to o k a while before I was finally able to concentrate on my paperwork and eventually continue the painting I had started yesterday.

Alexander and after being forced to do something I loved and usually did with ease, I found myself unable to relax and enjoy what I was doing and so I found myself in the club and ended up in the club -a decision I regretted immediately I got there, my bad decisions from that night smacking me in the face.
After spending the whole day painting today till it was almost dark out, I went straight home, vowing not to go to that club again if I could help it.
I wasn’t sure I could though.
