Chapter 12 Searching for Answer
Theodore stiffened. What did he say? Whose funeral?
“What bullshits you are talking!” He snapped.
Ding! The phone vibrated.
Theo sighed with relief as he read the message sent by Cecilia. “She messaged me.”
He clicked it, only to be met with those piercing words. [Please spare my mother after my death]
Theo furrowed his brow, the words of his assistant echoing in his mind. Finally, his
voice trembled as he asked, “Who informed you of her funeral?”
“Check out Cecilia’s location immediately!” Theo’s voice carried a quiver.
Though Assistant Ezra felt a tinge of surprise, he swiftly followed the command and
quickly located Cecilia’s position.
Grythwill Hospital.
Upon seeing the address, Theo’s heart skipped a beat. He seized the car key from the table and hurriedly rushed out.
Throughout the journey, Theo pushed the car’s speed to the limit. His lips pressed together tightly, his gaze fixed straight ahead. His hands clenched the wheel tightly, his
mind lapsed into a turmoil.
The car screeched to a halt at the hospital entrance. As he swung open the car door,
he saw a group of people gathered.
And in the distance, he spotted a dried pool of blood, and the scene stung his eyes.
Never before had he yearned so desperately for it all to be an illusion.
With legs as heavy as stone, he trudged forward.
“It’s such a shame. This girl died in such a young age.”
“Yes, why couldn’t she find another way to resolve her troubles instead of committing
suicide?”
“Ah… what a pity.”
Theo’s stride faltered as he cast a doubtful glance at the crowd, his heart brimming
with disbelief.
Cecilia was dead? Impossible! Without his permission, how could she…
Theo quickened his pace. He needed to check it out. He had to witness it with his own
eyes, or else he would never believe it! He refused to accept that the woman who deceived
him committed suicide!

Approaching the doors of the emergency room, the glowing lights of the emergency
sign caught his gaze. Theo stared fixedly at the luminous glow, still unable to believe that
Cecilia was now lying in the emergency room. Wasn’t she planning to elope with that
bastard Luke?
Cecilia’s final words echoed in Theo’s ears. [Please spare my mother after my death.]
No! He didn’t believe it.
At that moment, Assistant Ezra approached, observing Theo’s crestfallen countenance. Softly, he soothed, “Mr. Heimann, madam will surely overcome this danger. Please don’t
worry…”
Seeing that Theo’s gaze remained unmoving, Ezra sighed.
“I have investigated the matter you entrusted me with.” Ezra said, retrieving a document from his briefcase.
“It is indeed true that madam has only one kidney. The records indicate that she donated her kidney when she was very young due to a lack of funds in her family. However, based on the investigation of madam’s family circumstances, this reason seems
improbable. Thus, I believe there must be another hidden motive.”
After expressing his doubts, Ezra received no response from Theo. Then Ezra noticed
that Theo appeared lost in contemplation.
A sudden memory struck Theo. In his youth, he underwent an appendectomy and later
returned to the hospital to have the scar removed. Now he realized the scar looked nearly
the same to the one on Cecilia’s body.
Theo frowned. The records stated that Cecilia had donated a kidney at a tender age. Coincidentally, the timing of Cecilia’s kidney donation seemed to align with the time of his
appendectomy.
The answer seemed poised to reveal itself.
Clutching the documents tightly, Theo’s anger brewed at the belated arrival of these papers. Late to the point where he might not have enough time to unearth the truth. Was there still time for him to find the answers? What kind of surgery did he truly undergo all
those years ago?
Theo could perceive it was a lie behind all of this, a lie that might cause him to miss a crucial piece of the puzzle.
If it wasn’t an appendectomy he had undergone, but rather a kidney transplant. And Cecilia happened to be the one who selflessly donated a kidney on the same day.
Theo’s hand trembled slightly. Could it be that Cecilia was the kidney donor of him?
