Chapter 176 His Blue Eyes

Blue.

Ethan’s eyes were blue again, the same shade as our baby’s!

Ethan grunted and tried to push himself up but failed. I could tell he was still very weak. He looked around us a bit confused and lowered his head to look at his own hands.

It worked! He was himself again! “Rosalie, you …”

Ethan stared at me with his stunning blue eyes, and for a moment, I was brought back to the time when I first met him. Bittersweet memories flooded through my mind, and all of a sudden, everything in the past seemed so far away, and right now, all I wanted to do was to throw my arms around him and welcome him back.

But I didn’t have the strength to do so, nor did I know whether I should.

So many things had happened between us, and I wasn’t sure how I would face him going forward. I didn’t know what Ethan wanted from me. At that point, I didn’t have the energy or the courage to find out.

Therefore, I simply smiled and nodded at him, just like a queen would. “Welcome back, Alpha Ethan!” Neither of us spoke afterward, and we both moved our gazes away from each other

Luckily, Vicky’s voice broke the awkward silence. “What was that?” She jumped up from the ground, clearly frightened by what she’d just seen. Georgia had told everyone from Ethan’s group to stay back when the ritual started, but she hadn’t had the chance to explain further.

“That was the soul returning to the body,” Cerina explained to her. “Because Her Majesty touched Alpha Ethan as his soul was going into his body, a bit of his soul is now infused into her.”

I looked at her, wondering what that would mean for me.

Cerina looked at me. “Your fates will now be further entwined with each other.” I didn’t know what to think. Seeing my worried expression, Cerina tried to make things sound a bit lighter. “Do not worry. Your fates were already bound by your child anyway.” I nodded and looked at Ethan, who remained quiet.

Talon walked over, offering Ethan a hand, but Ethan could barely lift his arm.

Cerina gently pushed down Talon s extended arm and said, “Technically, the ritual hasn’t been fully completed yet. We need to stay here for another day. The magic power from the altar will help Alpha Ethan to fully regain control of his body, mind, and soul.”

It was then that I noticed that the altar illuminated a slightly soft silver glow surrounding Ethan, and Cerina explained further, “As soon as the glow from the altar fades, he will be back to his true self.”

Talon frowned, but Georgia stepped up with Rowan in her arms. “Don’t worry Talon! We’re all friends here.” Then she smiled at Cerina as well. “Right?”

Cerina nodded. She stood up and lowered her head to talk to Ethan. “Alpha Ethan, in any case, we shall thank you for returning our queen to us. We also owe you our gratitude for saving our queen and prince a while back. Now, as a return of favor, please allow us to help you until you fully recover.”

Ethan’s voice was hoarse, and he replied gracefully, “Thank you for your hospitality.” After saying those few words, he closed his eyes, seemingly not wanting to communicate more with anyone.

Was he too weak to stay awake, or was he trying to avoid me? I was a bit disappointed as I really didn’t know what I wanted. I had been trying to run away from Ethan and return to my pack. Now that I was there, I didn’t feel as happy as I thought I would.

I was confused by myself. This was everything I wanted, right? Be with my son, be with my pack, and not have to deal with Ethan anymore.

Based on Ethan’s flat reaction, I had to question whether he really had feelings for me. He told me many times that he loved me, before and after I was imprisoned by the Rogue King. But were any of those his real feelings?

Could it be that the only reason that the Rogue King had been keeping me as his prisoner was because he needed someone to fulfill his physical desire? Or again, simply because he wanted my son?

I watched him lying next to me without any words and couldn’t hide the hurt I was feeling. I didn’t know what to think. He hadn’t even asked me to forgive him for what he had done to me.

At the very least, I expected him to apologize, but he said nothing at all.

‘Your Majesty, how are you feeling?’ Cerina’s voice echoed through the mindlink. I knew she wanted to discuss something in private.

‘I am tired, but I am doing well. Don’t worry.’ ‘Let me check your hair…’

I smiled and assured her, ‘Not a strand of white, I promise!’

She walked over next to me. After running her fingers through my hair, she finally let out a breath of relief.

‘See, I told you!’ I winked at her. Georgia sat down next to me and Ethan, and Rowan immediately wanted to reach out to me.

“Hey, hey You’ve got your aunt here. Let your mother rest. Okay, boy?” Georgia pretended to scold Rowan, and the little one just kept cooing at her. Ethan’s eyes opened again, and I could tell his gaze on Rowan was tender and soft. Something suddenly struck me. Taking a moment to think through it all, I looked down at Rowan, and fear flooded me like a broken dam.

I asked Cerina through the mindlink, ‘Will Rowan inherit the power as well?’

‘No.’ She smiled and glanced at Ethan as she said, ‘You both are lucky. The gift only passes with the females, and not the males. So, His Highness will not have the same risk as you. If the two of you don’t have another child that is female… the power will die with you, Your Majesty.’

Cerina’s answer was a huge relief. I smiled and leaned over to plant a kiss on Rowan’s cheek. Today was a lucky day, full of good news The sun started to set, and the temple dimmed. But it wasn’t too dark as the candles illuminated the space softly.

It was peaceful. Cerina went to let everyone know we would be waiting in the temple overnight and started to work with Seraphine to help others to get comfortable, while Talon took the lead to arrange the patrol schedule for the night.

Since there wasn’t much else for me to do, chatting with my friends seemed to be a great way to start the night.

Vicky leaned over to my ear and whispered, “Look at you! The White Queen! It just sounds so… magnificent!”

My face blushed “Vicky, don’t make fun of me. I’m still getting used to it…” She winked, straightened her face, and bowed to me with a voice as low as she could get, saying, “Yes, Your Majesty!”

Georgia and Ethan were the only two close enough to hear. Georgia burst out laughing, and I blushed more.

“Vicky…” I covered my face with my hands.

“Vicky!” That was Ethan. Vicky immediately jumped behind Paul while responding without delay, “Yes, Alpha! I’m sorry!” Georgia laughed even louder.

It was almost unreal that laughter returned to my life, and it reminded me of hanging out with Georgia and Vicky when we were back at the capitol. Those were such good days.

Paul tried to distract Ethan’s attention from Vicky He scratched the back of his head and asked me, “May I ask a question?”

“Of course.”

“Why do they call you the White Queen?” This question caught me off guard. Of course, I knew the answer, but it wasn’t something I wanted to go into in too much detail.

As I was working on an acceptable answer, Georgia answered the question for me. “It’s the title for the queens of the Winter Forest pack It is said that their queens have the power of the

Moon Goddess,” Georgia began. “Whenever the pack faces a great crisis, the queen will borrow the power from the Moon Goddess and lead the pack to victory.”

Rowan cooed in Georgia’s arms, and she gently bounced him a couple of times. Then the little one noticed the man lying on the ground and reached out to him. He wanted his father.

I looked down and saw that Ethan’s blue eyes were locked on me. They were calm and peaceful and seemed to be… concerned?

I heard Georgia continue, “When that happens, the power of the Moon Goddess will turn the queen’s hair totally white. The pack has been able to survive because of their queens’ leadership and power, and that’s why the queen of the Winter Forest pack is known as the White Queen.”

“Whoa! That just sounds so cool!” Paul exclaimed while Vicky elbowed him

“Not cool at all! If their hair turns white, it means their pack is facing a big crisis! We don’t need that kind of trouble right now!”

“Oh yeah, you’re right!” Paul quickly agreed with his mate.

I didn’t want to continue this topic and at the same time, an irresistible tiredness swept over my body I yawned and stretched. “I don’t know about you guys, but I’m exhausted!”

Cerina had returned and heard my comments. “The ritual consumes a lot of energy, Your Majesty. You should get some rest. It’s been a long day.” She assured me, “We’ll keep an eye on the prince and Alpha Ethan.”

I was awoken by the commotion outside of the temple. Neither Cerina nor Seraphine was anywhere to be seen. “What’s going on outside?”

“Your Majesty,” a nearby guard answered. “People from nearby villages heard about your arrival and are now gathered outside of the temple.”

“They want to see me? For what?” I was confused.

“They are here to greet their Queen.” Georgia walked toward me and helped me up. Vicky was holding Rowan now instead. Ethan’s eyes were still closed. He seemed to be bothered a little bit. We only needed a few more hours before the ritual was completed, so I decided to check out the situation outside of the temple first.

As I was about to walk away, I heard a groan. “Ah-”

“Ethan? Are you okay?” I asked him, concerned, as I rested my hand on his shoulder.

He rolled over onto his other side, his face frozen in a grimace.

“I’m-fine,” he managed, but I didn’t believe him.

I wondered if giving him some of my blood would help. However, I decided not to try that without talking to Cerina or Seraphine.

‘Cerina,’ I mindlinked her immediately. ‘Good morning, Your Majesty.’

‘Ethan seems to be in pain. What should we do now? Do you think my blood would help him?’

‘It will not in this case. He just needs to restore his energy. It’s expected. Your Majesty, let’s be patient. We’re almost there,’ she responded. ‘However, may I ask Your Majesty to come out to greet the people?’

‘Of course,’ I answered Cerina, then told the others, “Ethan is going to be alright. Don’t worry. I need to go out for a little bit, but let me know if things change.”

“We will. You be careful,” Vicky said. I gave Rowan a quick kiss and headed toward the entrance of the temple.

Walking outside, I was immediately greeted with a roar of applause and cheers. I wasn’t expecting that, and my heart was thumping due to a bit of nervousness.

“It’s the White Queen!” people were shouting. “We are so blessed to have you!”

“Queen Rosalie!”

“Long live Queen Rosalie!”

“May the Moon Goddess look after you, Queen Rosalie!”

I raised a hand and waved at them, but that wasn’t enough. The crowd of people came toward me, bowing their heads and pressing their palms together, as if they were praying to the Moon Goddess-to thank her for me.

I spent a great deal of time walking around, thanking everyone for their support. It was great to have a chance to speak to all of my people. After a while, seeing I was getting tired, Cerina walked next to me and advised me to get back in. Cerina said the crowd would stay there until we left the temple.

“Okay,” I told her with a nod. I bid the masses goodbye and headed inside, intending to return to Ethan and see how he was doing. But I didn’t get that far. Someone unexpected followed us into the temple.

‘‘Rosalie!”

“Soren?” I was happy to see him, but also surprised.

Before I could say anything else though, Soren urged me, “No time to catch up. You need to leave, right now!”

“Why? We can’t…Ethan still needs…”

“A massive force is coming here Madalynn and Behar are in the lead!”
