GAVIN
I was in this damn infirmary bed for the last 30 minutes but my mind was drifting somewhere. Matteo mind linked earlier that the Alpha came just in time before Alpha Aeon was able to claim and mark Clair. And by the silence in my head, I would a*s*sume that Jake won over him. At least all my effort and sacrifice did not go down the drain.
Sacrifice. My little lamb.
I closed my eyes for the nth time and pictured the female I saw at the ballroom today. I wanted her memory to linger longer, so I memorized her features and the way she looked at me. And then as if by memory, I started to smell her scent.
I snapped my eyes open and scanned the room I was in. I was alone but I heard retrieving footsteps from the hallway and her scent suddenly faded. I tried to sit and raise from laying down but the pain in my shoulder and my torso made it impossible.
I hissed in pain and laid back on my bed, cursing Aeon for my damage.
Did she come to see me? Wasn’t she claimed? I had many questions but it seemed these questions would never find answers.
After moments of silence, I was snapped out of my thoughts by a door opening. Clair and Jake came in. Clair let go of Jake’s hand and rushed forward flinging her arms around me.
“Aaargh!” I hissed in pain as she backed away abruptly from me.
Jake growled as he held Clair’s shoulders to stop her from falling backward.
“I’m sorry. I forgot. I was just happy to see you awake.” She spoke softly, her arms wrapped around her mate as she peeked behind him.
I smiled and Jake started to relax, pushing his mate forward beside my bed. “Don’t touch him. It’s either I will hurt him more because he scares you or because…” He then leaned to whisper in her ear. “… you think the Beta fancies you.”
Her face started to turn scarlet red from his teasing which elicited a hearty laugh from me. She shrugged off Jake’s hold and rolled her eyes on him before moving to sit at the side of my bed.
“How are you?” Her gaze shifted to my bandaged torso, and tears started to pool in her eyes.
I chuckled. “Stop crying, you cry all the time. Need to be tough, Luna.” I joked at her.
She smiled weakly. “I just want to say thank you. And… don’t do that again.”
And before I could say anything, she pressed her lips into my forehead and I felt her tears drop into my face. She then moved back and headed out of the room, Jake followed but after a moment he went back inside my room.
“You’re supposed to not let her out of your sight.” I reminded him.
He chuckled before his face turned serious. “She’s just outside with Matteo and Harrold. She doesn’t want to see you like that.”
I just nodded. No words to say.
“Thanks, man. I don’t know how I could ever repay you. Just say it and I’ll do my best.” The Alpha looked at me, and even without saying anything, I knew he meant it.
I knew that if the same thing happened again, I would do it for him and his Luna.
But maybe, this time it was my turn to ask for his help.
“I found my mate today. At the Claiming Ball.” I told him in a low voice.
“F*uc*k!” His jaw tightened as his eyes dilated into the full black. He knew what my revelation meant.

“Ready to go home?” I roared the engine back to life and tilted my head to my side, looking
contentedly at the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid my eyes upon.
Clair was buckling her seat belt, lips pouting in annoyance since she couldn’t seem to do it right. I leaned closer to her, my hand reached for the belt lock in her hand and fixed it for her instead, making sure it wasn’t too tight or too loose on her.
“You’re welcome.” I kissed her forehead before I leaned my back to my seat. “Ready to go home?” I asked again.
She raised her eyes on me, excitement flashed through her sapphire blue eyes as she bobbed her head up and down. “Yes, Alpha.”
We drove in comfortable silence, my hand entwined with hers which was seated in her thigh. Her other hand fiddled with my fingers.
“Jake…” She called out in a whisper, breaking my focus on the road.
“Hmmm…” I replied without glancing at her.
“What are we?” She asked in a soft tone, there was uncertainty in her voice.
I swallowed hard, her question caught me off guard me but I knew she wanted clarity but before I could open my mouth, she added more.
“When you came at the Claiming, did you just come to save me or… you wanted to claim me?” Her eyes were now fixed on me.
I stopped the car and parked it in an isolated parking space. We were in a middle of a city but it was already way past midnight and they were no humans on the street, except for a few inside convenient stores that were open 24/7.
I was hoping to talk with her as soon as we arrived on the territory but we were still 3 hours away and I guessed I could not keep my mate from waiting that long.
As soon as I stopped the engine, I angled my body towards her and motioned for her to come closer. She scooted over as I wrapped my arms around her and rested my face at the nook of her neck, inhaling her scent.
“I want you, Clair. More than you know…” I told her huskily, her scent was making me lose control. I wanted to have her now.
“I think we established that already. We want each other, Jake but is it enough for you to claim me as your mate? Or are you satisfied that we are just like this? Because I don’t think…”
“Ssshhhh… you talk so much.” I chuckled. She never let me finish anything. I started to nip the skin of her neck but she let out a deep sigh and pulled away from me, crossing her arm as she leaned back on her seat.
“I guess I got my answer already.” She said coldly with her eyes closed.
I let out a c*oc*ky grin, knowing she was pissed off.
I adjusted my seat and moved it back, allowing more space at my front. And in a swift motion, I hooked one arm under her knees and the other hand at her back as I lifted her from her seat, placing her on my lap that she ended up straddling on me.
“Whoaaa!” She gasped in surprise, eyes widening as she held on to my shoulders for support.
I moved my hands to cupped her face, capturing her gaze. “I’m not good with this, little mate.
Relationship and things… but let me try, okay?” I said in a low voice. She remained silent, her gaze fixed with mine.
“I want you, Clair. All of you. Even before this mate bond came into the picture. The only thing that stopped me from claiming you, was the fear that the bond might harm you. I’m scared of losing you. But I’m taking this step forward… if you will take it with me.” I told her my truth. I felt my eyes flicker full black for a moment. Echo wanted out, he wanted to claim our mate.
I saw tears pooled in her eyes, her lips parted but before she could say her piece I opened my mouth to speak again.
“I, Alpha Jacob Galhart accept you, Absaline Clair Montrell as my Fated Mate, the future Luna of my pack and I vowed to the Goddess that I will love
you, cherish you, respect you and honor you for as long as I live…”
Without waiting for me to finish, Clair crushed her lips into mine and placed soft kisses on my lips as she spoke of her vows to our bond. “I, Absaline… Clair Montrell… accept you… Alpha Jacob…

I slid my finger through her hair and curved my hand at the back of her head, holding her in place while my mouth fully captured hers, not letting her go this time.
