Liam frowned and said, “Can’t you understand my words?” I said, “Yes… But
can I have a look at the agreement?” He felt calmer and asked, “Why do you
want to look at it?” I asked, “Will you always look after my father?” I continued,
“I mean, is there any rule in the agreement that states that you’ll be
responsible to him even if we parted ways?” He was agitated and said, “What
do you think? Tell me.” He stared at me and said, “If you leave me, why should
I care about him?” I replied, “I can stay. But…”
He would always lose control when I talked about such things, but I asked
timidly, “What if I’m dead?” I hurriedly explained, “It’s normal for one to get sick
or die, and none of us can be sure that we’ll die of old age. If I’m dead, would

look after him?” He closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead, and he
stared at me and asked, “Is there really anything wrong with you?” I got

Mrs. Suvilllan said that Anna would arrive with her husband at eleven o’clock.
Before they arrived, I rested for a while and then got myself ready. Luckily, my
cheek was not severely swollen, and after applying some foundation, no one
could tell what happened to it. Liam was inside his study almost all the time;
he only went out with Jeffrey for less than an hour in between.

Anna was here when I was ready. Anna did not love Harvey, but to be honest,
other than him being old, he was actually a good–looking man with
elegance. Anna smiled as she held his arms; they seemed to be the perfect
couple. Liam held my waist as if he were deeply in love with me. We chatted
for a while, and Anna gifted me a pair of crystal rabbits. Liam told her that we
had a real rabbit, and she insisted that I bring her to look at it. I told her the
story of the rabbit when we were looking at it. She sighed and said, “People
nowadays are truly stressed out.” And she suddenly looked at me and asked,
“What happened to your face?” I answered, “I accidentally bumped into
something.” She suddenly said, “Liam called me this morning; did you force
him?” I shook my head and said, “Anna… I hope that you can be the one.” She
then said, “Didn’t I say that I’m in a really bad state now?” Liam told me that
he feels that your household should be in charge because the entire Nyral
Corporation would belong to you two. I nodded; I could not win Liam or her. I
could only say, “Let’s arrange the surgery for our father.” She was stunned,
and she exclaimed, “Vivi, what do you mean? Who would go for it as it has a
30% mortality rate?” I answered, “Yes. But be it successful or unsuccessful, we
don’t have to look after him anymore.” If it fails, I’ll commit suicide and go with
him.

She stared at me for a long time and said, “Vivi, you have to go through Liam
for this.” I looked at her, and she seemed helpless. “He called me in the
morning and said that if you ever talked about something like this, I should

but Vivi…” She then grabbed my hands and said gently, “Let’s be positive.
Liam can look after our father for two years, and once my business is

much different.”
I did not respond; I just grabbed her hand and left the pet’s room. Liam was
talking casually with Harvey in the living room; they seemed to be close. I felt
that Liam was more friendly to Harvey than to Anna, and so was Harvey. In
fact, if Anna had not told me about what Harvey said about me behind my
back, I would never have known that he was bad. And he seemed normal to
me.
The meal was scrumptious today. I was eating while listening to their
conversation. Liam was peeling the crab with a hammer, and Harvey
commented, “I always thought that it was fun to peel the crab this way.” Liam

answered, “It saves a lot of trouble.” Anna glanced at me and asked, “Is Liam
from Gilead?” He scooped the crab meat into my bowl and said, “My mother

is from Gilead.” I looked at him and said, “Thank you.” He smiled and caressed
my face. Harvey suddenly said, “Liam, Vivi was not even one month pregnant;
she can’t be eating crab. Anna made the same mistake, and she can’t get
pregnant now.”
He was stunned, and so was I. Harvey looked at him, then at me, and he
asked, “Huh? Did he not know about it yet?” Anna quickly reacted by nudging
him, “Hey, is this how you should talk as a brother–in–law?”
Harvey was stunned, and he slapped his head and said awkwardly, “Ha, I was
mistaken. Sorry…” Liam said, “Please tell me what you are talking about.” Anna
answered instead, “Harvey meant that Vivi just recovered from a fever, and
she shouldn’t be eating crab.” And she said to Harvey, “But you do know that
Vivi loves to eat crab; she always eats the most.” Then she looked at me and
asked, “Vivi, am I right?” I nodded. Harvey laughed it off and said, “Liam, it’s my
mistake. Let’s drink!”
