Chapter 19
Klaus’s POV:
A very loud crash interrupted my heated conversation with Joseph. I turned around and saw a very shocked Ella staring at us. The loud crash was caused by the bottle of wine she must have dropped on the floor.
I get up and start walking towards her to make sure she is okay, when she suddenly flinches away into the corner and hides her face behind her shaking hands.
“I’m sorry alpha, please don’t hurt me. It slipped from my hands” she begged in a shaky voice.
Hurt her? Why the hell would I do that?
“Why would I hurt you for breaking a bottle of wine Ella? What kind of monster do you think I am?” I asked angrily.
She kept staring at me through her shaky fingers. It became clear to me, she was expecting to be hurt because such actions were taken by her old alpha. My blood boiled in rage. How many times has the bastard mistreated her like this?
Joseph walked over and stood next to me and said gently “Ella, please calm down. No one is going to hurt you here. We are nothing like your old alpha and beta. It’s okay, It was just a bottle of wine” he seemed to come to the same conclusion I just did.
She lowered her hands, but the great fear she was showing in her eyes did not lessen. She was on the brink of breaking down, but barely held herself together. She was terrified of something other than the broken bottle.
Joseph knelt down and said gently “Ok, let me help you clean this up, you’ve been through enough today”
She stopped him before he began and started collecting the shards herself, and said while avoiding our eyes “No, it’s ok beta, I am fine I will clean this myself” she tried to appear calm, but it was just a mask, I could tell.
I stared at her for a few seconds, analyzing the situation from the beginning.
She got up from the table to get the wine for us and when she got back, she was freaked out enough to drop the bottle. I didn’t notice when she came back into the kitchen, but something tells me she had been there for enough time to hear part of my conversation with Joseph.
My heart skipped a beat. She was terrified because she knows something. Did she lie about knowing the servant?
“Ok, I am full. What about you Joseph?” I gave him a nod to follow my lead.
“Yeah me too. Good night Ella” said Joseph.
We turned around and walked out of the kitchen. I pretended to close the kitchen door behind me, but left it open just a little bit so I could see what she was doing.
“What are we doing right now, exactly?” Joseph mind linked me.
“There is something wrong with her, didn’t you notice? She’s afraid of something”
“Yeah, I noticed. But why are we standing here watching her like creeps?”
“I don’t know, I have a feeling that we are about to find out what she is hiding”
She was done cleaning the floor, and started cleaning the table. Her face was blank. She was holding herself together, but she wasn’t fooling me. I am a master at hiding my feelings inside and could instantly find out when someone else is doing the same.
Suddenly, she bolted towards the back door and got out into the back yard. I opened the kitchen door and followed her outside. She was kneeling on the ground vomiting and coughing.
Once her stomach was empty, I saw her entire body shaking with sobs. She wasn’t in control of herself anymore.
Joseph was about to walk past me towards her, his face was full of hurt and concern for her. I raised my arm in front of him to stop him and shook my head.
“Hold on a second, Joseph”
“Why? Why is this happening to me? What the f*uc*k did I do in my life to deserve this for god’s sake? First alpha Grey and now alpha Klaus!” she shouted angrily.
What does that mean?
“I hate you! All three of you! I hope you are rotting in hell you bastards! What the hell am I supposed to do now? You d*ied and left me to deal with this while I had nothing to do with it. How the hell am I going to tell alpha Klaus now?”
“Tell me what Ella?” I asked out loud.
Something tells me that my doubts were true. She knows the servant.
She got up and turned around to face us. Her face was pale and her eyes were tearful. I didn’t want her to have time to come up with a lie.
“Speak!” I shouted at her.
She flinched and said shakily barely controlling her sobs “The person who was sent to K*ll your father and mate by alpha Grey was my father, his name was Bill Forbes. Alpha Grey had him K*lled immediately after their murder to protect himself”
I expected her to know the servant, but for him to turn out be her father shocked me to my c0re.
I couldn’t keep the disgust and betrayal out of my voice “And you knew everything from the beginning didn’t you? That’s why you were running away from the pack. Because you knew I will eventually find out. God, and I believed you like an idiot”
She let out a sob “No, I… I didn’t know it was your pack alpha I swear to god. I never knew the name of the pack he was sent to nor the alpha. I only connected things when I overheard you talking about it in the kitchen. I’m telling you the truth I swear”
“Swear all you want Ella, I will never believe anything that comes out of a murderer’s daughter” I spit out in anger. First she managed to stab me, lied to me about why she ran away, and now I find out her father K*lled my family. I was beyond disappointed at myself for believing her innocence from the beginning. She fooled me and Joseph well. A mistake that will not happen twice.
“How long have you known about this, Ella?” asked Joseph in suspicion.
She paused for a second, probably trying to come up with another lie to save herself.
“4 months ago, I overheard alpha Grey and beta Sam talking about this behind a closed door. I only stopped to listen because I heard my father’s name. Before that, I never knew where my father went or what he did, I never knew how he d*ied or where. But I swear they didn’t say anything about who the pack was. The only name I heard was my father’s”
“Do you have anything else you want to tell me?” I asked in a cold tone.
“No, I don’t”
I stared at her for a few seconds. I went to war with alpha Grey because I was absolutely sure that he was behind the murder. He always had it out for my father. He wanted what was his, but was never able to defeat him. Alpha Grey was his only enemy. While it took me months to wake up from my grief, I swore on my life that I will make everyone involved pay.
“The old alpha and beta; the masterminds about this are dead, your father; the murderer, is dead, everyone who had a hand in my father and mate’s murder is dead. That leaves only you, the murderer’s lying daughter. Close enough for me”
She stares at me in terror and asks “Are you going to K*ll me? ”
“K*lling you would be a kindness that you do not deserve. No, you need to suffer the way I have been suffering and struggling every single day without them. Pain and agony will be the only thing you feel from now on, I promise you. You will be the one paying for your father’s betrayal” I said coldly and viciously. I had the ple@sure of tearing her old alpha and beta to pieces. But her father; the one I deeply wanted to punish escaped and d*ied at the hands of someone else. She will have to replace him.
She stares at me in shock and says challengingly “No, you either K*ll me and get your revenge over with right now, or I will do it for you”
I could not believe the nerve she had to order me that way after everything.
I grab her by the shoulders and bring her closer to me. I was on the verge of exploding.
“You will not K*ll or hurt yourself without my permission. You will not let yourself be K*lled or d*ie without fighting with all your strength until your last breath” I commanded coldly.
Her head automatically bowed down in submission at my alpha command.
If she stays here a little while longer before I calmed myself, I might actually shift this instant and tear her to shreds.
“Go back to your room. I can’t even look at you anymore” I commanded and let go of her shoulders.
She raised her head and looked at me in such hatred, it momentarily broke through my blinded anger and rage. She took off towards the kitchen’s back door.
I just commanded someone for the first time. I took away her free will. Although the c0re of a werewolf pack is submitting to their alpha’s commands, over the years it became more about loyalty.
In modern days, a respected alpha earns his pack’s loyalty by letting them keep their free will. You never need to command your pack into submission if they were fully loyal to you.
I have never commanded a member of my pack before. I was too blinded by betrayal, I couldn’t keep myself in check. That was the cruelest thing I have ever done. Well, second cruelest thing. The public whipping was the first.
“Klaus…” Joseph begins to speak but I cut him off.
“Leave me alone, please. I don’t want to hear you defend her. I am too angry to listen to you right now. Just give me some space” I beg him while avoiding his worried face.
He stares at me for a few seconds then retreats back through the back door, leaving me alone.
I run my hands through my hair in frustration, take a few deep breaths and try to calm the storm that was crushing me from the inside out.
My unending grief over my father, mate, and unborn child was overwhelming me all over again. I couldn’t think straight. I couldn’t think past the revenge.
Revenge was the only thing that got me moving again after a few months of their deaths. It was the only thing that will keep me sane and at the head of my pack. That’s exactly what I plan to do. She has to pay every day for her betrayal. While she didn’t poison them herself, she was related to him. His blood was running through her veins. She was a manipulative liar. She knew everything from the beginning. She was playing innocent. She actually made me regret punishing her. Now that I think about it, twenty lashes were nothing. I should have punished her with a hundred.
I head back to the house and go inside my office. I open the closet and retrieve the flogger whip I used this morning. I will finish what I started. She deserves it.
I walk towards the servants’ rooms. I have no idea what room I was seeking. I stop at the first door, hide the whip behind me, and knock twice on the door.
A sleepy male servant opens the door and freezes when he realizes who was standing in front of him.
“Can you tell me what room Ella Forbes is staying in?” I ask him in a cold tone. I wasn’t in the mood for a polite chat.
He pauses for a few seconds probably trying to comprehend my question at this late hour of the night. I stare back at him impatiently.
“It’s… um… the last door to the left, alpha” he answers in a low voice.
“Ok, you can go back to sleep. Close the door” I order him.
He immediately complies and shuts his door. I start walking towards the last door. Before I reach it by a few meters, I notice her door is slightly open, and a blood*ied hand extending out into the corridor.
