Chapter 3
Blaine also felt that the name sounded familiar. However, he was sure that Olivia had rented a boyfriend to make herself look good, so he did not mull over the details. Blaine stood up and lifted his glass of wine. “Since you two are late, why don’t you drink in apology?”
Jack was unmoved. He lowered his head and looked down at his watch. “The reunion starts at 12, and it is 11:48 right now. Are we…” He looked at Blaine with an arched eyebrow. “Late?”
Jack radiated the aura of someone who was in charge. Blaine was a true wealthy man, but even he felt some pressure. He quickly recovered, though. How could he be intimidated by a poor fool? This annoyed him inside.
Olivia watched as Blaine stood awkwardly with his glass of wine, his expression flickering. Olivia gave her “boyfriend” a big thumbs up in her mind. He was indeed a professional.
He got the character down pat.
Selena stood up to resolve the awkwardness and pulled Blaine into his seat. “No, no, you’re not late. What Blaine meant was that everyone arrived, and you two came last. We have all been waiting for you. Drinking will liven up the mood, so you won’t refuse us for this, right?”
“Why won’t I?” Jack glanced at Selena. He was smiling, but his words were extremely cocky. This made Olivia nervous.
She subtly tugged on Jack’s sleeve, reminding him not to go over the top with his acting. Blaine was the real deal. If he lost his temper, Jack would not even know what hit him.
However, Jack did not falter.
Meanwhile, Blaine was pissed. He had never been provoked like this in his entire life. Everyone who saw him would bow and call him Mr. Jones! He had no clue where this Jack had come from. How dare Jack talk to him like this?
Blaine shot to his feet again. “Well, you sound cocky,” he said with fire in his tone. “Mr. Shaw, may I ask where you work?”
Jack paid no attention to Blaine and just wiped his hands slowly with a napkin. “Just a small business.”
One of the classmates could not stand it anymore and spoke up to expose Jack.
“A small business? The kind of business where you get paid to act like someone’s boyfriend? How much did Olivia pay you? Let me rent you for one month!”
With that, everyone in the room burst into laughter. Olivia’s expression suddenly dropped.
She was about to speak, but Jack held down her hand. He looked at the woman who spoke up and said, “You do not qualify.”
His arrogance angered the group once again.
“Jack Shaw, right?” Blaine sneered. He pulled a card out of his pocket and tossed it on the table. “There are 200,000 dollars in that card. Drink all the wine on this table, then get on all fours and bark like a dog, and the money is yours.”
Most of the people in the room were fresh graduates and could not make this much money in a year. Blaine bet that this poor fool would be tempted.
The others were all shocked when they heard the amount of money. It was such a good deal if they could get 200,000 dollars just by drinking and barking!
They were all tempted now. If Jack refused to drink, then they could do it!
Olivia looked at Jack nervously too. How many orders would he need to take to make 200,000 dollars? After all, he had only come here for money.
While everyone thought that Jack would agree, he scoffed instead.
“Two hundred thousand dollars? Mr. Jones, is that all you got?” Jack tilted slightly and leaned back into his seat with a lazy expression. “If you bark like a dog, I’ll give you two million dollars.”
When Blaine heard “two million,” he laughed in anger.
“Bro, putting up an act is okay, but can you write a script first? Do you even know how much two million is?”
“Yeah, you’re just pulling things out of your ass. I can say that I’m the wealthiest person in Dynea!”
“Does he not know how rich Blaine is? Does he think Blaine is pretending like him?”
“All of you shut up!” Olivia suddenly stood up. She could not stand it anymore. “It is none of your business what kind of person he is. Did none of you brush your teeth in the morning, or did you eat something spoiled? Everything coming out of your mouth is disgusting!”
Jack looked in surprise at the girl beside him. Olivia was like a porcupine.
“He’s the one who bragged in the first place,” someone retorted. “Are we not allowed to call him out on it?”
“You all insulted him first. We’ve never bragged about how wealthy we are. It’s you all. It’s you, Mr. Jones, who insulted him with money. Are we not allowed to fight back?”
Olivia kept using the pronoun “we.” Instead of feeling annoyed by it, Jack found it quite cute.
“I offered him money because I have the means to do so,” Blaine suddenly said. “He said he could give two million dollars. Where’s the money?”
Blaine smiled at Jack and continued, “If you can show me the money, I’ll take back what I said. If you can’t, then you will act like the dog today.”
“And if I can, you’ll bark for me?” Jack looked at him with disdain.
Blaine was taken aback. Jack’s calm expression made Blaine swallow the words he had wanted to say. Could Jack really be able to produce the money?
“Blaine, don’t be scared! He definitely doesn’t have the money!”
“Yeah, don’t get intimidated by his act! Anyone can say these dramatic things!”
Everyone’s encouragement helped Blaine regain his confidence. He slammed his hand on the table and declared, “Okay! Show me the money, and I’ll fucking bark for you!”
As soon as he finished, the door opened. Two tall and muscular men in black suits walked in with a suitcase. They stood respectfully before Jack.
“Mr. Shaw!”
