Chapter 684
They all dined for nearly an hour. Mason stood up, seeing everyone was almost done, “I need to use the restroom.”
But instead of heading to the restroom, he went to the front desk.
“Could you please settle the bill for table twelve? Thank you.”
The cashier started to settle the bill and soon handed it over.
Just as the cashier was about to accept his card, Celeste quickly snatched it away and handed the cashier another card, “Please use mine.”
Mason had just left, and Celeste felt something was off, so she quickly followed and found him settling the bill.
Mason smiled slightly, “Nicolas ordered quite a lot. You just started working, and there’s a lot you need money for. Let me handle this. Once you’re settled in your job, you can treat me then.”
“No need,” Celeste declined, “I can afford to treat you all to a meal. You helped me with the lawsuit before; I should be treating you. But there were so many things going on then i didn’t get to thank you properly”
Just as Mason was about to speak, Liam’s voice came from behind, “Letti’s right. We should be treating you, can’t have you, the guest, paying.”
He had already walked over, striding to squeeze between Celeste and Mason.
She moved aside, stretching her hand to hand the card to the cashier, when Liam snatched it away
Then, he handed the cashier a black card, “Swipe this one”
Celeste frowned, grabbed Liam’s hand and whispered, “Stop making a scene! I’m treating everyone, what are you doing here?”
Liam leaned closer to her ear, I’m pursuing you.”
Celeste’s ears turned red, and she glared at him, “What does that have to do with who pays?”
Liam lowered his voice, “I need to show off my capabilities, whether it’s physical or financial
Now, Celeste’s ears were red, and her neck was too.
She gritted her teeth, “Who needs you to show off here?!”
Just as Liam was about to speak, Mason said, “Let me do it. Celeste didn’t get much from the divorce, better save when she can.”
Liam’s face turned dark, pushing Mason’s hand away. “Your law firm doesn’t make that much money either. Better save it for your parents.”
Mason casually replied, “My parents‘ pension is quite a lot. They don’t need me to support them for now.”
“Then save it for your wedding”
Mason smiled and lowered his voice, “Working on it.”
Liam’s face darkened, and he shoved Mason on the shoulder.
Mason stumbled backwards and knocked over the decorations on the cashier’s desk.
With a loud “clunk“, the decoration hit the floor. Luckily, it was made of brass and didn’t break.
However, the loud noise did attract the attention of the diners.
Celeste jumped out of her skin, her face turning a sickly shade. “Liam, what the hell are you doing!”
Liam looked edgy, but he didn’t say a word.
“Mr. Fletcher, are you alright?”
Mason got up, grinning, “I’m fine, just lost my footing” He paused momentarily and then turned to Liam, “I won’t fight with you over this; you pick up the
tab.”
Liam was seething, the last thing he wanted was to foot the bill; he’d instead take off with Celeste.
But if he did, everything he’d done would be for nought.
Swallowing his rage, he pulled out his card and handed it over, “Here, let’s settle the bill.”
Mason stiffened slightly, looking at Liam in surprise.
