Chapter 673
After hanging up the phone, Liam sat in the car for a while before getting out.
Owen was leaning against the car, puffing on a cigarette.
When he saw Liam getting out of the car, he was about to stub out the cigarette butt.
He knew Liam didn’t like the smell of tobacco. Apart from social occasions, he hardly smoked at all.
Liam stopped him and asked casually. “Got another one?”
Owen took out a cigarette from his pack and handed it to him.
The flicker of the lighter flame danced in the sea breeze. Owen shielded it with his hand. Liam took a drag, and the tip of the cigarette glowed before burning brightly
He exhaled a puff of smoke, squinted his eyes, and leaned against the car with Owen, staring into the distance
Owen asked, “Mr. Reed, why didn’t you tell your wife about the surgery?”
He was referring to the vasectomy.
Liam didn’t respond.
Owen assumed he didn’t want to answer, so he didn’t ask again
It wasn’t until the cigarette was half smoked that Liam said, “The surgery was my choice, not a tool to manipulate her morally”
“I want her to choose me because she likes me, not for any other reason”
Owen was taken aback for a moment, then chuckled and didn’t say anything
The divorce not only left a crack in his wife’s heart but also hurt Liam badly.
He clearly had many ways to keep his wife by his side, but he didn’t dare force her or demand anything
Liam’s love, though late, was incredibly deep.
Maybe it wasn’t because his love came late, but because of his past experiences
He wasn’t good at expressing his feelings, and he was afraid of rejection
Owen said softly, “It would have been good if you hadn’t gone to C City”
Liam was silent for a moment.
His heart ached slightly
More than once, he thought that if he could go back in time, he would have left for a different reason, arranged everything properly, and been there for her
when she needed him.
But that was meaningless
“Suppose” is useless for things that have already happened.
If supposing was useful, he shouldn’t have answered that call seven years ago
But if he hadn’t answered that call, how would he have met Celeste?
Everything is a chain reaction of fate, so there’s no point in complaining
He had no regrets because it was his own choice.
His only mistake was that he was too arrogant and overestimated his control over things.
Liam took another puff of his cigarette, then asked, “How’s Coco been lately?”
“The doctor said she’s doing well, she’s now running around in the ward, asking the nurse for a phone every day, wanting to call you asking when you’re going to pick her up
Owen paused, “Mr. Reed, who is Coco’s father?”
He had been with Liam for many years and only found out about the little girl four years ago when Liam had Sydney give her a blood transfusion.
Coco didn’t live in J City. She lived in the neighboring H City, where someone took care of her. Only when she needed a blood transfusion would she be brought to J City
The frequency of transfusions was about once every three months. Apart from this, Liam didn’t go to H City very often.
