Chapter 562
Steven arrived just a few minutes before the court session started and sat where Liam had sat last time.
Just like a family member of the plaintiff.
The defendant’s family members, Helen and Angel, were there, and there was a six- or seven–year–old boy next to Helen.
He looked a lot like Helen and had an unpleasant look.
This was Shawn and Helen’s son, Jacques Campbell.
If it hadn’t been for opening Caitlyn’s safe, she wouldn’t have known her father had left her two such big surprises.
The three of them were dressed neatly. Helen had changed her submissive appearance, and her hair was very stylish. The clothes on her and her daughter next to her seemed very expensive.
Celeste looked coldly at the defendant’s seat.
Shawn was in uniform and in good condition; he even seemed to have gained some weight during this time.
Thinking about how it was Caitlyn’s efforts that had nourished these people, Celeste felt depressed.
She clenched her hands. She must win this lawsuit!
Mason gently patted the back of her hand, and while organizing the documents in front of him, he whispered, “Stay calm.” Celeste took a deep breath and lowered her head.
The trial began soon.
The lawyers from both sides quickly started a heated debate in the case.
Both sides had their own evidence and views.
Shawn’s side held onto Caitlyn’s medical expenses.
Several times they emphasized how big that expense was and stressed the care Shawn took of her after Caitlyn’s accident.
He even made up a lie that Caitlyn herself knew he was cheating and willingly helped him raise the child since Caitlyn had already passed away.
He also claimed that he did not get together with his current wife until after Caitlyn’s accident and that there was no property transfer. Despite knowing Shawn was shameless, they were still shocked by his shamelessness.
Fortunately, Mason was well prepared. Whether it was his affair with Helen during his marriage, using the common property with Caitlyn to buy a house for Helen, or the frequency of his visits to the hospital after Caitlyn’s accident, all proved that he did not care about his wife.
The doctors had asked him to come to the hospital several times to speak to Caitlyn to help her wake up, but he had never come. These were supported by the doctors‘ testimonies, and he could not hide them.
Gradually, Shawn was at a disadvantage.
After Mason stated his case, he presented the plaintiff’s claims.
The opposing lawyer was silent for quite a while.
Just when Celeste was convinced they had this case in the bag, the opposing lawyer suddenly said, “Your Honor, I have a question for the plaintiff.”
‘Granted.”
The defendant’s lawyer turned to Celeste and asked, “Miss Celeste, in what capacity are you suing Mr. Shawn in this case?” Celeste furrowed her brows. What kind of question was that?
She pursed her lips and said, “As his daughter, I am representing my mother in a property division lawsuit against him. Is there a problem?”
“There is, the opposing lawyer pulled out a report, his sharp gaze fixed on Celeste, “According to our investigation, you are not Mr. Shawn’s biological daughter. You have no biological relation to Mr. Shawn. In other words, you have no standing to sue Mr. Shawn as a plaintiff.”
From the spectators‘ bench, Steven’s eyes became grave.
