Chapter 550
Finally back in the office after a day of blind dates, Steven was really fed up with Liam.
He had eaten five meals and drank four cups of coffee in just one day. The women Liam set him up with were not bad looking, but they each had their own quirks.
Three of them were normal enough, but the others, upon seeing how handsome Steven was, bluntly suggested they go to a hotel to rest. Was it appropriate to go to a hotel right after a blind date? Was it really to rest? He was too embarrassed to call them out on it.
He even began to suspect that Liam wasn’t trying to help him find a date, but instead was looking for a sex partner for him.
Why did he divorce Celeste if he was afraid of dating her? Did he think that after the divorce, Celeste wouldn’t be able to run away from him? Who gave him that confidence?
While contemplating how to deal with Liam, he waited and waited, but Liam just didn’t show up.
Feeling puzzled, Steven picked up his phone and gave Liam a call.
Liam had just left the old house when he answered the phone. His tone was much quieter than the cocky attitude he displayed in his previous text messages. “What’s up?” he asked.
Steven: “Didn’t you say you were coming to my office? What time is it now, where are you?”
Liam seemed to have just remembered this, and said, “Let’s meet outside, I won’t go to your office, let’s have a meal together.”
A
Steven: “Thanks, but I’ve had five meals in six hours, I can’t eat anymore.”
“No problem, you can watch me eat.”
They agreed on a place and Steven hung up the phone, grabbed his coat, and left the office.
No sooner had he left than Clair Garcia walked in.
Finding the office empty, she pulled out her phone and called Steven.
Steven had just gotten off the elevator when he answered. “What’s up, Clair?”
“Where did you go?” Clair asked.
Steven replied, “I’m going to have a meal with a friend, just got downstairs.”
“What friend,” Clair teased, “It’s not another blind date, is it?”
“No, it’s Liam.”
“Liam?” Clair was a bit surprised, then said, “I haven’t had dinner either, take me with you.”
“Do you want to come?” Steven asked with a smile.
“I have nothing else to do at home.”
“Then come down, I’ll wait for you downstairs. Oh, and grab the essential oil from my office drawer.”
“Got it.”
After hanging up, Clair went around the desk, opened the third drawer and immediately spotted a light blue bottle of essential oil in a box.
She took out the essential oil and suddenly noticed a picture frame hidden under the box.
Clair paused, then took out the photo.
It was an old family portrait.
A young couple was holding a four or five–year–old boy.
The boy was Steven, the father was Hiram Garcia, and the woman…
The woman had a captivating presence, her features were so delicate it was as if she was a painting. Holding the little boy in her arms,
her smile was radiant.
Clair had seen pictures of this woman in Steven’s room when she was a child. She thought the woman was stunningly beautiful. Later, she learned that this was Steven’s biological mother.
But she was too young then and forgot about the picture after seeing it once. Also, the family was worried that it would bring back painful memories, so they never displayed the woman’s picture again.
