Chapter 549
Celeste thought of a plan the detective might not be interested in a traffic accident case from years ago. Because the cases Mr. K investigates are either famous unsolved cases or cases involving rich businessmen having affairs.
Yes, the cases he takes on are just the two extremes.
The former for fame, the latter for money.
Celeste was worried he might turn her down, so she mentioned in the email that she was a friend of Michaela’s.
When Michaela introduced Mr. K to her, Celeste had a feeling that Michaela knew him well. Thinking he might be a friend, she used this strategy.
Turns out, it worked.
Following the address given by Mr. K, she wandered around the old streets in the old part of the city and finally found a small
restaurant.
Upon entering the tiny place packed with people, she couldn’t tell who might be the detective,
Just as she was hesitating, someone tapped her shoulder, “Ms. Campbell?”
Turning around, Celeste saw a young man in a black hoodie and jeans standing behind her.
He was taller than her, skinny, with a clean face, thick eyebrows, and big eyes – looked like a student.
“…Are you Mr. K?” Celeste asked, puzzled.
He chuckled, “Don’t I look like him?”
Celeste hadn’t seen him before, so she couldn’t say he didn’t. She just said, “You look young.”
Mr. K ordered a plate of pasta and casually sat down, “I’m 37,”
So he was significantly older than Liam Reed. Liam, with his hair slicked back, looked old enough to be someone’s uncle.
Celeste sat down and started chatting with him.
After they met, Mr. K ate while listening to Celeste.
He was eating fast, like he hadn’t had a good meal in days.
Celeste paused, “Maybe you should finish eating first before I continue?”
“It’s fine, keep talking, I’m listening,” Mr. K replied in between bites.
So Celeste continued.
By the time she finished, Mr. K was almost done eating. He wiped his mouth with a napkin and asked, “Do you suspect your dad or his mistress staged the accident?”
“I just think it’s too much of a coincidence,” Celeste replied in a low voice.
She was planning to divorce, then had an accident. The biggest beneficiary of Caitlyn’s accident was Shawn. She couldn’t help but suspect him.
If the accident wasn’t an accident, she would make Shawn pay, no matter what!
After copying the information from Celeste’s hand, Mr. K told her, “If things are as you say, it does smell fishy that the culprit took off from J City after getting the compensation. I’ll try to reach out to the family first, and I’ll hit you up if anything comes up.” He paused, “Pay up front, and if I can’t dig up anything useful, I’ll give you a full refund. But if I do, the next time we see each other, you’ll owe me the second payment. Any questions?”
“No questions.”
Mr. K is quite the big shot in the industry, so Celeste naturally trusted him not to do her dirty. She even forked over an extra 20 grand, urging him to get the intel asap.
She was about to go toe–to–toe with Shawn in a divorce property division lawsuit, and it would be a game changer if she could find useful information before the case wrapped up. If it turns out he really did off his wife to get his mitts on her dough, Shawn would be in the slammer, and it wouldn’t end well for Helen and her mom and kid. No one would be laughing then.
