Chapter 74
Again, I started to move. I walked with one purpose to the one place so that I could get my hands on something that would give as much pain to someone as I was currently in. Since I would make Isabella pay for her crime, I would do it slowly, piece by piece, with the silver knife she used to kill Ava. In fact, I would make it very painful for her to ensure that she would suffer a much more terrible death than poor Ava.
However, I could feel it the next second I thought of my plan to see Isabella. Benjamin had placed the Alpha’s command on me. I wasn’t happy with my intention to disobey the order he had ordered for me. I winced as I cried out in pain because the command tied itself around me which forced me to stop
moving.
As I fell, the ground then suddenly came rushing towards me. After that, I started to crawl even though it became even more painful. Nevertheless, I was determined to keep continuing no matter the cost. It felt as if a car was thrown on top of my body, which slowly crushed me the more I fought against the command. However, it was already way too late to stop me.
In my head, I kept repeating the words I had to tell myself. I was marked by the Goddess. I was the chosen one, I was a Saintess, and no order would be able to stop me. If I wanted to go murder Isabella, then for fuck’s sake, I would go murder her. Thus, I strongly resisted those restraints in my head as I was screaming against the strong pain it had caused me until they finally let go of me like a chain.
After that, l-immediately gasped with relief when the weight was lifted. The feeling was like an immediate sense of liberation that quickly filled me. It made me feel that I could suddenly do anything. I was free.
Without wasting any time, I tried to stand up as I continued on my journey. My new freedom only forced me onwards faster. I kept going until I finally came to the building where the evidence was kept in a secure place. I knew that the silver knife would be in there. It would be guarded by at least one warrior, but I wasn’t concerned. Given how little time had passed since Benjamin’s decision, I was very sure that they would think me as a part of the current investigation as far as they might know.
As soon as I entered the building, I looked around. I had been. here too many times before during my Beta’s heir rounds, but it somehow felt as if I was seeing it in a completely new light because of how dark it was outside. The entire place felt too empty and quiet, but I knew there would be someone around.
Then, I walked through the hallways as I remembered the way easily until I saw the room up ahead. The room was guarded by only one warrior named Ray. Unfortunately, I didn’t know him that well.
“Good evening, Ray,” I carefully greeted him in a flat voice as I slowly approached him to see what his response would be.
After that, the man looked at me confusedly as he saw me entering and asked, “The Beta’s heir? Why are you going here so late?”
“Benjamin asked me to get something up. It’s for the current investigation.”
This wasn’t really a lie. It was definitely going to help to solve the mystery about Ava’s killer who was still roaming free. Ray looked hesitant and uncomfortable. He might realize that something was off here.
“The Alpha’s heir very likely meant to get in in the morning, Ma’am. The evidence locker will be kept shut until the daylight hours. The warriors are put to guard on the night duty by the Alpha’s command, so I can’t really disobey that.”
“Oh, I get it. However, this order comes from Benjamin himself. I really have to enter because he asked me, you know … which would be seen as the same level of authority as your orders. It’s very important, so if I can just-”
When I tried to move aside to get closer to the door, Ray immediately took a step before me that blocked me from the door.
“Well, you should’ve known then like I do that I can’t really just let you enter, Ma’am. You’ll have to leave and come with the Alpha’s heir if it can’t wait until the morning comes.”
“Ray,” I told him as I gritted my teeth.
“I have to enter the locker. Just
move from your spot,
please. Don’t make me harm you.”
The man then narrowed his eyes as he asked cautiously, “Are you threatening me?”
“It doesn’t have to be.”
The words already got out of my lips so quickly before I could even stop them. Immediately, I knew that it was a big mistake. If Ray felt verbally threatened, he could try to attack in order
to defend himself. A physical fight with Ray would only worsen the situation. However, the anger I had for being stopped for something that was so ridiculous only made me even more frustrated. This feeling of frustration was caused by everything that happened recently.
I had to act very quickly before Ray could do anything, so I immediately rushed toward the keys on his waist. However, that man was quicker than I expected. It was because he quickly stretched his hand, which immediately wrapped my wrist in order to stop me.
“Ray! Let me go immediately! Now!” I shouted at him as I tried to pull my hand back from his grasp.
“I’m keeping you detained here until I can call for help or get to contact the Alpha’s heir himself. Threatening a pack member without any valid reason can indeed be punished.”
Again, I tried to pull my wrist back. However, the man held on tighter as his body was now moving in order to handle my even more aggressive efforts to pull my wrist back in order to escape him. However, it couldn’t be like this. I wouldn’t be taken down like this. After all, I didn’t break off the Alpha’s command just to be stopped like this. In fact, it was already way too late to retreat now. Then, it felt as if something
overcame me.
My whole body became very still as I went completely silent. As if there was pressure that finally snapped, an energy came within me. It felt like nothing I had ever felt before because my body then moved on its own. After that, I quickly pulled back the arm he was holding with strength enough that his face even suddenly came right before my own face. Then, I spoke to him. However, the voice didn’t feel like my own voice.
“I told you to let me go. Now!”
Instantly, Ray’s hand loosened as I looked at how his eyes were glazing over. The authority level in what I ordered really hit him hard. Even harder than anything that I thought was physically impossible. Yet, it indeed came from me.
For a few seconds, I stood thee still until the shock of what I just did eventually hit me. Also, it was enough to make me realize something. However, it didn’t happen without any risk. My order came with an intense vertigo that required me to brace myself against the wall in order to stop me from falling. The whole room felt spinning when I tried to gain control. Not only that, my heart was also beating hard quickly.
Was this the ‘ultimate authority’ that I had read about when someone marked by the Goddess had higher power than Alpha? Throughout this entire time, I really thought that it was only a ranked title that was honored out of respect for a deity. I thought that it wasn’t something that could be truly enforced with real power. Then, why did it make me feel so sick? Was it because I hadn’t shifted yet? It might be because my younger body couldn’t even handle the level of power that was needed in order to control it.
Ray was obviously shocked by my command that made him not do his duty. The man began to step backward shakily from me. However, I realized that it was too late to help him when his foot suddenly caught under him. With a very strong thud, I watched in shock as his body fell backwards against the door behind him. After that, he stopped moving.
Luckily, my head was still clear enough to make a run for Ray in order to check on him. Thankfully, the man was still alive. Nevertheless, he was hit pretty badly in the head. Still, I knew
that he would be fine in a few hours after healing as he was very strong. So, I continued to drag him out of the way to gain access to the door.
After I got the keys from his waist, I immediately ran into the evidence room as I didn’t want to waste any more time. I searched everywhere to get the silver knife until I finally found my old silver knife that shone at me from a shelving unit to the left.
Seeing it again made me feel bad, but I had already made up my mind to murder Isabella with it. When the light was about to fade from her eyes, I wanted to make sure that this knife would be the last thing she ever saw. Right next to me who was smiling down at her. That way, it would be poetic justice.
As I quickly grabbed the dagger, I tried to stomach any remaining uneasiness that I had. I quickly left before anyone else showed up to check on the locket or find Ray.
As for my next stop? It would be the hospital.
