Anna took her phone out and searched for the news. “You can look at them
on the way. We need to leave right now! You don’t need that dirty son of a
b*tch anymore! You can stay with me. I’ll look after you from now on!”
I changed my clothes and followed Anna out of the apartment. I was still in a
state of confusion as I made my way down to the underground parking lot.
As soon as Anna drove out of the basement, I could see reporters rushing

toward our vehicle, Anna quickly stopped on the accelerator and sped off

My hands trembled a little as I turned on Anna’s phone and looked at the first

In the video, Liam and Rina were seated opposite each other in a restaurant.
They were spotted smiling and chatting while having a meal together. Before
they left the restaurant, Liam even helped Rina put on her coat. He had his
hand wrapped around Rina’s waist as the pair walked out of the place.
I spotted the blood diamond ring on Rina’s finger from the video. Liam was
wearing his couple ring too.

I turned off the phone and stared blankly into space. Just then, I felt someone
patting on my shoulder. I turned my head and saw the worried expression on
Anna’s face. “Vivi, you can cry all you want now. You don’t have to hold back
anymore.”
I don’t feel like crying.
I knew about him and Rina since a while back.
I know that he doesn’t love me. In fact, he resents me. He’s done a lot of
terrible things to me up till now. I knew all that.
That’s why I don’t feel like crying. I just feel… empty.
What happened last night seemed like a dream now… He left so early in the
morning. It was as though he came home just to check on me. He gave me
those kisses and held me in his arms…

I felt so bad for him as I looked at his depressed face. After a moment’s
consideration, I told him that I would help him by persuading my father to
invest in his company. Then, I encouraged him to stay strong and give it
another try.
Liam stared silently at me with unfocused eyes as I said all that. Finally, he
asked, “Why are you doing all this?”
“I like you,” I replied.

It was my first time confessing my feelings to a man I like. I was so nervous
that I could feel my palms getting sweaty.
However, I still remember seeing that look in Liam’s eyes after he heard my
answer. There were hints of scorn, wariness… and even hatred.
I think I’ve known from that moment on that Liam would never come to love
me, no matter what I do.

Soon, Anna parked her car near the back entrance of the city’s botanical
garden. It was a deserted area with almost no passersby in sight. I could only
see the white snow covering the ground and the trees nearby.
Anna took my hand and looked me in the eye. “Vivi, you have nothing to be
afraid of. Though reputation matters a lot in our society, it’s not the only
important thing in life. I’ll find a way to help you one way or another, but you
can’t keep things from me anymore.”
I knew what she was trying to say. “Liam said he’d give me ten percent of his
shares.”

merely closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Then, she said, “It’s alright,
Vivi. I’ll find another way.”
“I want to see him. Can you take me to him now?” I asked.
“You should rest though…”
“I don’t think I can…” I replied, “Please take me to him.”
After that, Anna drove us to the LM building and parked her car in the
basement. In the distance, we could see a white Bentley stopping near the
