“I hope you’re telling me the truth.”

Liam picked up his spoon and said, “You should continue with the project. I’m
curious about the end product.”
“I don’t have the time to do it,” I said.
Liam paused briefly. “What’s keeping you busy? Your plans to go shopping?
Or are you meeting with some strange men?” Liam continued in a
threatening voice, “Do you seriously think I’ll allow that?”
“I’m not feeling well.”
Liam snickered, “Is it about cancer again? Or do you have leukemia this
time?”
It seemed like he wouldn’t believe me no matter what I said.

“I saw the email from your school. They said you skipped classes for more
than two months now. Your teacher was also asking for your progress.”
I remained silent even after hearing all that.

With my time running out soon, I knew there was no point in me attending my
classes now. Still, I couldn’t bring myself to drop out of the university.
In the end, I decided to keep everyone in the dark. I did not notify my lecturer
that I had stopped working on my project, nor did I reply to any of his emails.
Liam went on, “I’ll get in touch with the school. You should sort out your plans
and progress so far tomorrow and show it to me in the evening.”
I replied stubbornly, “I don’t want to work on it anymore.”
There was a loud thud as Liam slammed the spoon onto the table. I was
completely taken aback by the noise, and I trembled slightly as I stared in his
direction.

“You’re doing it regardless! I seem to recall you telling me that you love
computer science a lot and that you dream of becoming a scientist!
Whatever happened to all those dreams? Are you going to throw away your
chance to get your graduation certificate too?” Liam glared fiercely at me.
“Vivienne Nyra, you should be spending your time on the right things instead
of trying to blacken my name with such a cheap trick!”

I was momentarily stunned. Then, I hurriedly responded, “It wasn’t my doing!”
Liam picked up his fork silently.
I opened my mouth and was about to say something when a thought struck
me.
I have no idea who’s taken those photos, but I do know that Anna is
responsible for spreading those rumors. I can’t let Liam find out about that.
Liam turned his gaze on me at that moment. “Go on.”
I stared back at him with my mouth shut.

“Shouldn’t you try to explain yourself if it wasn’t your doing?” It almost felt like

Liam was carefully scrutinizing my face. “If it wasn’t you, was it
your sister
then?”
I was shocked at how quickly he could reach such a sharp deduction. Still, I
asked cautiously, “You knew about it this whole time?”
“Open your mouth.”
“What?”
I did as he told me to and Liam stuffed my mouth with some fish meat.
I chewed carefully and gulped the food down after making sure that there
were no bones in it.
Liam’s lips curled. “You look just like a small bunny.”
He continued, “It appears that your sister is only good at pulling these cheap
tricks. How much did she tell you to ask from me?”

“Can I not answer that?” I asked.
“Sure. Anyhow, I’ll abandon you sooner or later. A fool like you should just
spend the rest of your life next to your sister.”
I muttered in a small voice, “You can abandon me right now. I won’t try to
stop you.”
Liam’s face hardened almost instantaneously. I could see him tightening his
grip around the fork. I swallowed nervously and said, “If I released a
statement to the press and explained the photos, would it help bring your
company shares back to their original price?”

Liam made me take another piece of fish. His expression seemed to have
softened a little. “Just stay at home and don’t use the phone. You should rest
and get better so that we can have a baby soon.”
I averted my gaze upon hearing his words.
It’s the second time he’s brought this up. Sadly, it’s something that I couldn’t

Liam made me look into his eyes. Then, he asked earnestly, “You’ve not
gotten pregnant before, right?”

Perhaps it was because of the hint of gentleness and seriousness in Liarn’s
eyes, I couldn’t help but wonder if he had some misunderstanding about me.
After a moment’s hesitation, I began, “Do you really want to know the answer
to that?”
“If you do, I’ll let you know that…”
At that moment, the sound of a phone vibrating could be heard.
Liam picked up his phone and said, “Go on.”
However, the man’s expression changed as soon as he saw the name on the
screen. He answered the phone right away.

Since I was sitting on his lap, I could hear the soothing voice of a young

woman coming from Liam’s phone pretty clearly. “Liam, I saw the news. Didn’t
you promise that you wouldn’t see her anymore?”
Liam gently nudged me back to my seat and got to his feet. “Those are all
fake news. I just gained control over the Nyra Corporation. Those people
probably spread the rumors because they were unhappy about it…”
Then, he went out to the balcony and slid the door shut.
I looked at the food on the table, but I couldn’t find any appetite to stomach
them anymore. I rose to my feet and went back to my room.
At first, it was the lady with the green peacock tattoo. Then, it was Rina Olsen.
Who is this lady that’s speaking to him on the phone now?
Was my gut feeling right? Did he give up on the woman he loved just so he
could marry me and gain control of the Nyra Corporation?
I felt a lump in my throat as those thoughts filled my head.

I even considered explaining myself to him just now. What a joke! Why should
I explain myself to him? Did he ever bother trying to explain anything to me?
I’m not going to offer him any explanation. I should be delighted that he’s
having some sort of misunderstanding in that regard. I’m sure it hurts his
pride a lot. I want to make him suffer with envy and detestation.
I repeated those words to myself inwardly and wiped my tears dry. Then, I
washed myself, took my medicine, and went to bed.
I don’t care whether he’s still at home or not. I’m going to sleep.
As I drifted into a restless sleep that night, I could feel my body temperature
fluctuating from time to time. At times, it almost felt like I was sleeping
outside in a snowstorm. Yet, in the next moment, I would feel like my body
was burning up all over.
At some point, I felt so unwell that I gradually woke up. As I opened my eyes, I
noticed the bedside light was on.
