Chapter 51
I replied, “I don’t have that much…”
“You’ll figure out a way.”
Anna hung up as soon as she finished saying that.
I gave a sigh and checked the online banking app on my phone.
I’ll have less than 500 thousand dollars left in my bank account if I pay her
three million dollars.

Just then, someone knocked on the door and entered the room. It was Auntie
Sidney.
She appeared anxious as she came up to me. “Madam, did you have a
quarrel with Mr. Mendez again?”
“What’s the matter?” I asked.
Chapter 51 You’ve Had to
“Mr. Mendez instructed me to get the car ready to send you back to the
apartment.” Auntie Sidney answered, “He said that you’re not allowed to bring
anything with you. Also, he wanted you to leave the safe open before leaving
so that Ms. Olsen could browse the jewelry stored in it later on.”
“Are you coming with me?”
“I tried asking for Mr. Mendez’s permission, but he wouldn’t allow it.” Auntie
Sidney had a downcast expression. “How could he do something like this?
You’re in such poor health! What if there’s no one there to help look after you
at the apartment?”
“Don’t worry. I have several servants working for me at the apartment.”
I guess he’ll agree to divorce me this time. It’s a bit sudden. Still, it’s a good
thing.
I flashed a smile at Auntie Sidney. “Most of them have been working for my
family since I was still a child. They are all very kind to me.”
Chapter 5T You’ve Had Too Much Free Time
Despite Liam’s instructions, I took one thing out of the sofs before leaving the
house.
It was an old watch that belonged to my mother. The watch had stopped
working at eighteen seconds past 3.22 am. It was the exact moment when
my mother’s heart had stopped beating.
My parents and Uncle George had worked together to start the Nyra
Corporation back in the day. Sadly, Mother had nothing much left in her
possession at her death except for her wedding ring and this watch.
Anna took Mother’s ring, and she gave me the watch back then.
Funnily enough, I just noticed the items we received were almost ke bad
omens for our future. Anna is in an unhappy marriage now, whereas I am
running out of time.
When the Nyra Corporation was facing financial difficulties, Father had sold
off nearly all of his properties, including the Nyra Manor where I grew up living.
The only place I could return to is a 3000–square–foot apartment in the city

center. The apartment was located on the topmost floor of a tall building.
and it boasted an impressive view of the sea.

By the time Mrs. Crawford and I arrived at the apartment, Mrs. Sullivan and
the other servants had prepared a delicious spread to welcome us. I invited
all of them to join me at lunch. These people were like family to me, and I
enjoyed a leisurely meal while catching up with them.
After lunch, I decided to visit Father at the hospital. However, Mrs. Sullivan
stopped me when I was getting ready to leave. “Ms. Vivienne, why don’t you
stay at home for today?”
After what happened with Auntie Sidney last time, I caught on almost
immediately. “Is that an order from Liam?”
“Yes. Mr. Mendez said that you came down with a fever yesterday and that
you should rest at home for the next couple of days.” Mrs. Sullivan avoided
my gaze. “Also, you should probably wait until things have died down a little
before going out.”
Chapter 51 You’ve Had Too Much Free Time
I couldn’t even believe my ears. “Why are you taking orders from him too?”
“Mr. Mendez is paying for all the expenses required for the maintenance of
this place, after all.” Mrs. Sullivan continued, “Moreover, I think he means you
well.”
I returned to my room and gave Liam a call.
After some time, he answered the phone. “What is it?”
“I’m already at my apartment, but why are you still keeping me confined?”
5/10
There was a long silence as I waited for Liam’s reply. However, I only heard a
soft thud over the line.
I can guess what he’s thinking about.
I said, “Thank you for paying the hospital bills and the bills required for the
apartment’s maintenance. However, I don’t have any money to pay you back
at the moment.”
Chapter 51 You’ve Had Too Much Free Time
“What happened to your money?” Liam asked.
“I spent almost all of them on stuff.” I responded, “I’ve heard about the
scandal. I’m willing to do whatever it is you want me to do, but before that, I
need you to sign the divorce papers… As I’ve mentioned, I won’t ask for any
compensation.”
Liam fell silent again.
I became increasingly agitated as the silence lengthened. “I believe you’ve
sent me here because you’ve also come to the same conclusion. You have
nothing to worry about. I won’t use the divorce to ask for favors from you.”

Liam’s voice came down the line. “I’ve heard that lotus roots go well with fish.”
The sudden change of topic completely threw me off balance.
Why is he talking about that?
Liam asked, “Does it take long to make roast fish with lotus roots?”
Chapter 51 You’ve Had Too Much Free Time
I answered instinctively, “It does.”
“Make it, then.” Liam said in a flat tone, “You must have had too much free
time for you to come up with all that nonsense.”
“What do you mean?” I was baffled by his response.
Once again, Liam lapsed into a sullen silence.
Why is he bringing up roast fish out of nowhere?
Could it be…

I couldn’t stop myself from raising my voice. “Do you want to bring her to my
apartment to have a meal as well?!”
There was still no response from him.
I knew it! His silence confirms it!

I was overcome with indignation despite my efforts to suppress it. “This is too
much! I’ve given everything I have to her! Why are you still putting me
through something so horrendous?!”
Liam finally responded, “I’ll give you ten percent.”
“What?”
“The shares.” Liam replied, “Just turn off your phone and stay put for now. I’ll
make time to take you to visit your father at the hospital in a few days.”
I fumed, “I don’t need your shares! I just want us to get a divorce! I won’t ask
for…”
“Vivienne, I won’t take no for an answer. Those ghostwriters would cost you
around 500 thousand dollars at most. It’s imprudent to ask for more.”
I was rendered speechless by his words.
“I don’t want to hear another word about having a divorce from you ever

again.” Before he ended the call, Liam said, “I want roast fish for dinner.”
After that, I tried to check how much it would cost to hire a ghostwriter, but I
couldn’t find any relevant information on the internet.
Nevertheless, I wired three million dollars to Anna. I didn’t want to risk.
displeasing her and jeopardizing Father’s treatment.

Though I know Anna is probably asking for much more than what’s needed to
pay the ghostwriters, I know she means well. After all, Liam has been fooling
around with other women all this time.
In the afternoon, I tried to make roast fish with Mrs. Crawford’s help.
She passed a knife to me. “Mr. Mendez had us take the day off on Christmas
day. Then, he came to me asking for a few tips since he wanted to cook for
himself that day. He mentioned how he could recognize the dishes you
prepared because of your cutting skills, Madam.”
I remember that day… There were short, pleasant moments while I had

dinner with him that night.

After dinner was ready, I felt a bit unwell, so I took some medicine and rested
on the bed for a bit.
When I had finally woken up, I opened my eyes and spotted the person.
holding me in a tight embrace. I quickly closed my eyes, but a voice rang
next to my ear, “Open your eyes.”
