The woman also said she thought Liam liked me a lot. Every time I left him, he
would stare at my back for a very long time.
If I had heard about that sooner, I would have forgiven what he did to me,
gone to his office, and asked if that were really the case.
After what happened, especially the events from last night, I had no intention
of asking him at all.
Liam did not speak, so I continued, “I don’t know why you’d want to do that.
I’ve already signed the contract, you…”
“Come to my office,” Liam interrupted. “Or I’ll go and pick you up.”
I decided to go to L.M. Building myself. I shuddered at the thought of him
coming to bring me; I did not want to be in the same enclosed space with
him.

Before I went, I downloaded a divorce agreement contract and printed two
copies.
The chances were slim, but I wanted to try.
I arrived on the same floor, and the same female secretary was outside.
She seemed nervous when I stepped out of the elevator. “You’re here, Mrs.
Mendez. Mr. Mendez is in his office.”
I thanked her and walked toward his office. It took me a while before I
gathered my courage and knocked on the door.
The door opened slowly. I could hear people talking inside.
As soon as I stepped in, I saw Liam sitting in his office chair in front of the
floor-to-ceiling window. His gaze was slightly elevated, and he had an
indulgent expression on his face.

He held a hand with fair skin. The hand belonged to a woman in a white dress

She stopped mid-sentence when she heard me at the door, and she turned
her head over.
It was Rina.
I stood rooted to the ground, staring at their hands.
“Oh!” Rina seemed surprised. She said to Liam, “She’s the pretty lady I was
telling you about earlier!”
“She’s not as pretty as you are.” Liam stood up, lovingly caressed her cheek,
and said gently, “I’ll get Jeffrey to bring you around the office, and I’ll look for
you later.”
“Okay.” Rina grinned mischievously. “A goodbye kiss, maybe?”
“Stop fooling around.” Liam patted her head. “Off you go.”

Rina left the office with a grin on her face. Before she left, she waved at me
and said, “Bye, Vivi dear!”
I smiled at her. After the door closed, I looked at Liam.
Liam leaned back on his chair, lit a cigarette, and smiled mockingly at me.
“Come over here… ‘Vivi dear.”
I did not move. Instead, I asked him, “Can you tell me why you did that?”
Liam’s smile faded away. He stared at me for a few seconds before saying,
“This has nothing to do with you. If she bothers you again, tell her to come
and look for me.”
“I don’t know why you did that, but I voluntarily gave her my shares, and I
don’t intend to take them back.”
Liam tilted his head to stare at me but said nothing.
I averted his gaze and said, “I gave the shares to her because she promised

she would take care of Father.”
“I’ll take care of the medical fees,” Liam said.
I shook my head. “You don’t have to.”
Liam did not say anything, and the office was awkwardly silent for a while.

My brain was a mess because I was afraid. Whenever fear seized me, I could
not think straight.
After calming down, I handed him the divorce agreement and said, “Thank
you for giving me the money. I’ve brought the divorce agreement today… I’m
also grateful for what you did, but please let my sister pay for my father’s
medical fees.”
