Chapter 14
I felt immense pain in my head. I did not know if it was because of the blow I
suffered or the tumor in my brain.
My head spun, and I lost almost all of my senses.
Suddenly, I heard an ear-piercing shriek.
I forced my eyes open and saw several silhouettes moving.
A hand reached toward me. When it was next to my eyes, I noticed the
diamond-studded watch on the wrist.
The hand hugged me by my shoulders and shook me. “Wake up.”
I opened my eyes and looked at the person in front of me.
I could not see his face or the rest of his body clearly. It was as though a layer
of frosted glass separated us.

Some time later, I felt my body wrapped up in a coat, and before I knew it, I
was being carried in someone’s arms.
I lifted my head once more and looked at the face of the person carrying me.
This time, I could see clearly. The person was really Liam.
I picked up his familiar scent.
I was familiar with his scent because I had sniffed his clothes like a puppy. He
did not want to touch me, so that was my only way of familiarizing myself
with him.
It might be laughable to others, but I felt happy whenever I did that.
While my thoughts wandered, I buried my head in Liam’s neck. He said softly,
“Hug me.”
I reached out and wrapped my arms weakly around his neck, as though he
were a kind-hearted stranger who happened to save me.

Liam stopped walking, and he turned his head toward me.
I closed my eyes to avert his gaze.

I knew what he was thinking. On other occasions, I would have clung tightly to
him without him telling me.
I would not let go of any chance of being intimate with him.
However, I did not do that this time.
Liam paused for a few seconds before walking forward again.
A gust of cold wind assaulted us. Mr. Cailan came to him and said, “I’ve
apprehended all of them.”
“Mm,” Liam replied and placed me inside the car.
I let go of him. Before I could shift to the other side, he hugged me by my
waist.
Liam sat down next to me and said to Mr. Cailan, who was still outside of the
car.” You’re dismissed.”
He hugged my waist tightly and pressed my body close to his.
The car started, and the interior light went out, plunging both of us into
darkness.
I lay on his chest for some time before attempting to push myself away. His
grip on my waist became tighter, and I could not move.
“No one can see us now,” I said.
Liam did not reply. He shifted slightly.
There was a soft click. A small flame lit up, and the stench of cigarette smoke
permeated the interior of the car.
I could not help but cough. At the same time, I tried to pry his arm away from
my waist.

He held me tighter, opened the car window to throw the cigarette away, and
used his free hand to grasp my lower jaw.
Liam would occasionally glare at me with a cold and contemplative gaze, as
though he was looking at a stranger.
Gradually, I stopped struggling.
A long time later, he said softly, “Vivienne, stop playing tricks with me.”
He did not sound hostile as usual. I did not know what he wanted to tell me,
but I knew how to end the conversation. “Okay.”
He gazed at me, let go of me, and turned his gaze outside the window.
Chapter 15
I did not move away. Instead, I leaned on his chest.
It was the first time he hugged me while no one else was watching.
However, I had wanted to move away and escape from him.
Eventually, I felt sleepy, so I closed my eyes.
While I was drifting in and out of consciousness, I felt Liam’s body moving,
and a warm palm rested on my cheek.
Liam had never kissed me, not even on our wedding day.
For the past three years, I had dreamed countless times that he would hug
and kiss me…
Each time, the sensation was so real and intoxicating…
Just like what I was experiencing now.
