Chapter 63
Ella’s POV:
We slept through the entire afternoon and woke up around five p.m.
I slept without having a single nightmare. I couldn’t help but link that to the warm, and safe arms that were holding me tightly the entire time. His head was nestled against my chest, as he slept so peacefully.
Despite the horrible revelations that were uncovered today, one amazing revelation took place finally. We opened our hearts to each other and confessed our true feelings. I never imagined I would fall in love with anyone. I never imagined I would even find someone to love me for who I am. A weak, traumatized, wolfless, servant.
But he did.
And I was the luckiest person on earth, because he was so supportive and understanding of my difficulties and anxieties. He was very considerate and gentle with me. Especially, once he got past his recurrent anger and got rid of most of his demons.
I smiled wildly as I remembered his heartfelt confession. He called me his sweet distraction. My heart started throbbing insanely in reaction to his lovely words. I felt him stir as he lifted his head and looked at me sleepily. I smiled at him and said “Hey, did I wake you?”
My sudden change in heartbeat must have alerted him into waking up, since his head was directly on top of my heart. He shook his head a little as he got up, leaned against the sofa, and ran his hands through his hair in a sign of nervousness.
I got up and leaned against the sofa as well while facing him with wariness seeping into me.
“Joseph just mind linked me. He wants to talk to us about something important. They are waiting for us at their place” said Klaus carefully. I raised my eyebrows in surprise.
“About what? Do you know?” I asked curiously.
“I have a slight idea, but I’d rather you hear it directly from Joseph,” he said stiffly. I felt my stomach drop as a sinking feeling took place there. There was something they were all hiding from me. His stiff form and tone confirmed it.
“Ok, let’s go then,” I said as I got up and headed for the door, as he followed behind me.
All the way towards their house, I could almost feel and smell Klaus’s tension in the air.
It deepened the dread that creeped into me and made me feel like whatever Joseph had to say was big, life altering big.
What the hell was so crucial that got Klaus in such a nervous condition? We knocked on the door and waited to be let in.
As soon as I laid eyes on Joseph, a huge lump formed in my throat. His eyes were so red. He either had a very bad eye allergy or was crying intensely for a long time.
My gut told me it was the latter. I came closer to him and examined his face. He was looking at me with a hurt expression, and tearful eyes.
“What’s wrong?” I whispered in agony as a response to his crushed state.
He didn’t say anything. He just kept staring at me as if he was afraid to talk to me or answer me. I looked around the room for Sara but didn’t find her. I looked back at him with panic filling my whole body.
“Did something happen to Sara?”
He shook his head and said hoarsely “No Sara is okay, she just went into the bathroom”
“What happened to you? Why are your eyes so red?” I asked urgently, unable to contain myself anymore.
Just then, Sara emerges from their bedroom looking like a copy of Joseph’s condition with the same red puffy eyes and broken expression. She takes one look at me, and her tears instantly fall down. She tries; too late, to wipe them away before I notice them.
“Let’s sit together, I will tell you everything,” said Joseph as he cleared his throat and motioned for us to follow him.
I take a look at Klaus as we head towards the living room, and note that he was purposefully avoiding looking at me.
We sit down, me and Klaus on one couch, and Joseph and Sara on the other.
A moment passes as Joseph; who was sitting immediately to my right, trades nervous looks with Sara.
I don’t think my nerves can take any more of the overwhelming anxiety that was radiating immensely from all of them, as I snapped, “Ok, you are all scaring the hell out of me. You need to start talking right now.”
Just as Joseph was about to speak I cut him off promptly as I say, “And I need you to get directly to the point without wasting time on preparing me, it will only make me more tensed than I already am.”
He takes a deep breath while I hold mine, as I wait for whatever got them all wired up and walking on eggshells around me.
“Klaus already told you how this whole revenge between alpha Mathew and Grey started out. But there was another person involved. It was my father. He was alpha Matthew’s beta and his right hand. He stood in Grey’s way when he tried to attack alpha Mathew to prevent him from taking his mate with him. Grey vowed to make him pay as well, along with anyone related to him,” Joseph said in a rush.
“Okay?” I urged him to continue as I could not connect what that has to do with me.
“Daniel said that Grey wanted to do to them what they did to him. Based on his twisted logic, our fathers stole a sl*ve and a baby from him; that is Klaus and his mother, so he wanted to take the same thing from them in return.”
That sounded vaguely familiar to me. It was the same thing Grey told me when he was drunk that night.
‘That pack that I sent your father to, I wanted revenge on its old alpha, because he stole something from me many years ago. So I stole something from them too… many years ago.’
He wanted to take the same thing from them in return. A sl*ve? A baby? Both?
“He stole a baby from this pack… then made her his sl*ve seventeen years later,” he said carefully.
The wheels started to turn inside my head. I felt like I was on the verge of a heart wrenching discovery, but was too scared to unravel it at the same time.
I was his only sl*ve. He never had another one as far as I knew. Was he talking about me? I was taken from this pack? Why me? What’s so special about me?
Daniel said it was my grandfather’s fault, this whole thing started with him. But who was he?
The two people on Grey’s radar were alpha Mathew… and his loyal beta.. Joseph’s father… my grandfat…NO!
I s*ck in a breath as I try to stop my mind from working out this riddle. There is no way that joseph’s father was my grandfather, because that would mean that Joseph is…
No, no it can’t be.
I look up at him and Sara with tearful eyes as I begin to comprehend their wrecked appearances, and their red weepy eyes. I ask Joseph dreadfully “Are you talking about me?”
He nods his head as a tear falls down his face.
“Whose baby?” I barely manage to whisper shakily. My whole body was trembling at that point.
“Our baby,” said Joseph with a broken voice.
