“I can go on my own.” I unbuckled the seat belt and reached for the door
handle.

Just then, Anna widened her eyes as she stuck her face closer to the window
that she was looking out from. I noticed the change in her expression and
followed her gaze.
A tall, beautiful woman in a soft lilac coat had exited from the white Bentley
parked not too far away from us. She looked tall and elegant as she made
her way to the elevator.
Anna couldn’t seem to keep her eyes off the lady. She sighed in admiration,
“Liam must’ve been very successful at expanding his business, even this
princess–like lady is here to see him.”
“Who’s that?”
“That’s Yvette Shaw, the CEO of Solex Corporation. She’s the chairman’s

youngest daughter. She is a very capable businesswoman, and she’s been
chosen as the successor of Solex Corporation.”

“Solex Corporation? Is it the company that you and Father have always talked
about?” I asked curiously.
“That’s right. Harvey has a photo of her. She looks even prettier in real life. I
think even actual princesses could hardly compare to a woman like her.”
Anna’s eyes were bright with envy as she leaned back in her seat.
The Solex Corporation was somewhat of a mysterious and extraordinary
existence even amongst other elite corporations. Since the owner had rarely
agreed to do interviews, very little was known about them and their family.
You could hardly find any photos or information on the internet about these
people.
Father once told me that he had worked his whole life to be able to build the
Nyra Corporation. For us to become as successful as the family that owned
the Solex Corporation, he says that it’ll require the effort of more than five

generations of people working continuously on the same goal.
Anna reminded me before I left the car. “If Liam is meeting with her, you
should probably not disturb him. It’s probably a very important business
meeting. You’ll only anger Liam if you happen to cause any problems then.”
“Things are not looking good for you. Know when you need to take a step
back. You’re not a child anymore.”
I nodded slowly. “I know.”

I took the VIP elevator reserved for Liam and his guests. Normally, the elevator
would go right up to the floor that I was heading to without stopping since no
one else would use it. However, I was completely caught off–guard when the
elevator stopped on the ninth floor and the door opened.
A little boy was standing just outside the elevator. I could tell it was probably
his doing since he was smiling playfully at me.
At the same time, all the employees working on that floor heard the sound of

the elevator door opening. They got to their feet to offer their greetings as
they thought it was Liam, who had shown up on their floor.
At that moment, all eyes were on me, and I could tell most of them.
recognized me. I spotted the various looks of scorn and disdain in their eyes
almost instantaneously.

They must’ve seen the news. They probably think that I’m just some easy and
lustful woman.
As a huge sense of mortification washed over me, I hurriedly pressed the
button to close the elevator door. Finally, when the door was closed, I
crouched down and lowered my head. I started feeling cold and dizzy again.
Eventually, the elevator stopped moving and I heard the sound of the door
opening again. I slowly raised my head to check the surroundings. There was
not a person in sight, even Liam’s secretary was not at her usual spot.
I stepped out of the elevator, barely feeling my legs. Then, I headed toward
Liam’s office.

I’m starting to regret having made the decision to come here. What should I
say when I see Liam? I couldn’t even stand those strangers‘ gazes. Would I be
brave enough to face Liam?
I didn’t even have the time to change my mind when I found Liam in the
lounge area the next instant. It was an area that was surrounded by huge
floor–to–ceiling windows, so I could see what was happening inside clearly.
Liam was seated on a sofa while the princess–like lady sat next to him. She
had a hand placed on Liam’s arm as she looked at him with a gentle and
loving expression on her face.
On the other hand, Liam appeared to be sharing some stories with the lady in
an excited, lively manner. He seemed so happy and alive while talking to the
lady.
People say that men would often act like a child around the women that they
love.
I guess it’s true. He’s always been cold and distant when he’s with me.

I was lost in thought as I stood there and stared at the pair, unmoving.
Suddenly, a young woman’s voice rang from behind me, “Mrs. Mendez?”
I flinched in surprise and turned around. Then, I saw that it was Liam’s
secretary.

For a moment, it seemed like she struggled to decide what she should tell
me. Eventually, she looked at me nervously and said, “I’m sorry. Mendez is
a bit busy now since he has to speak with an important guest.”
I gave her a slight nod. Inwardly, I was grateful that she did not treat me any
differently.
When I decided to leave, I spotted another set of eyes looking at me. Liam
had somehow noticed that I was standing outside.
A sudden fear gripped me.
I hurriedly headed toward the elevator. Unfortunately, the VIP elevator was on
the first floor. I pressed the button and stared anxiously as the numbers went

up slowly.

The secretary was kind enough to help me as another elevator arrived on our
floor. “Mrs. Mendez, you can use this elevator instead.”
I didn’t even have the time to thank the young woman as I stepped into the
elevator in a hurry. However, someone caught me by the arm and pulled me
out of the elevator.
It was Liam.
His eyes blazed with rage as he glared at me. “What are you doing here?”
He looked so furious that I bet no one would believe that he was smiling so
happily just a few minutes ago.
As expected, he only shows these kinds of expressions when he’s around me.
I lowered my head subconsciously.

I know I should say something now, but I don’t think I can speak properly or
make a sound right now.
I’m just not strong enough to face him.
I should have listened to Anna.

I was never the brave or bold type. I shouldn’t have done something like this. I
shouldn’t have come here in the first place. Back then, I shouldn’t have gone
to Liam’s house and said those things to him.
Liam appeared to be holding back his anger since his secretary was with us.
“Follow me.” He dragged me along and pushed me into an empty meeting
room. Then, he instructed his secretary, “Lock the door.”
I saw that Liam was leaving, so I hurriedly asked, “What is the meaning of
this?”
Liam headed toward the door without offering any explanation. I tried to

When I tried to move past Liam, the man caught my wrist and shoved me
back into the room forcefully.
