Chapter 10
Just as Olivia was about to leave, a hand pressed her shoulder, and Jack’s deep voice came from behind, “You go home first. I will handle it.”
She turned abruptly to look at him, thinking that this person she had only known for less than two days was again standing up for her.
However, she did not want to involve him anymore.
“It is alright. You take care of Granny for me. I can handle it myself,” she said, her confidence wavering toward the end.
He pulled her behind him and reassured her, “It will be fine, trust me.”
He always seemed calm and composed, with a sense of certainty. Undeniably, seeing him gave her an inexplicable sense of security.
Before she could say anything else, he had already walked out with the two men.
She stood at the door in a daze. Being someone who always followed the rules, she had never experienced something like this before. At this moment, her hands were shaking.
After a while, she finally realized that he had dealt with Mike’s matter for her.
She wondered, “But didn’t he come to collect the debt?”
“Olivia, what is wrong?” Not hearing anything, Barbara asked from inside the home.
Olivia immediately closed the door and returned. “It is nothing, Granny.”
“Who was that just now? Did you get into trouble?” The old lady asked urgently.
“It’s work-related, and Mr. Shaw is taking care of it.”
Barbara’s expression changed slightly upon hearing that. She grabbed Olivia’s hand and suddenly spoke in an anxious tone, “Did you say his last name is Shaw?”
“Yes, why?” Olivia looked at her grandmother in confusion, wondering what exactly could be wrong with that name.
But Barbara smiled again, appearing as usual, as if she had imagined something. “I just thought his name sounded nice. He must be a handsome young man, right?”
Jack’s face appeared in Olivia’s mind, and she nodded in agreement. “Yeah, he is quite handsome.”
“Where is he from?”
“Well, I am not sure. I will ask him when he comes back.”
Olivia guided Barbara, who was nodding thoughtfully, to sit on the couch. Then, she refilled the thermos with water and put it back on the coffee table.
After a while, there was another knock on the door. Olivia’s heart tightened again, and she clenched her fist, gathering the courage to open the door.
Opening the door, she saw Jack standing outside with his hands in his pockets, appearing relaxed as if taking a leisurely stroll.
She glanced behind him and noticed that he was alone, instantly feeling relieved.
“You are back so soon?” she asked.
He nodded. “I found out what it was about. It was just a misunderstanding, and they will not come looking for you again.”
Upon hearing his words, her tense face finally relaxed, and she smiled, “Thank you.”
Although deep down, she did not really believe he could truly resolve the situation because it was not a misunderstanding. She had indeed hit Mike.
He chuckled, “You were quite bold when you were hitting someone. Why are you scared now?”
She blushed and said embarrassedly, “I was angry at that time, and besides, he went too far. Can you endure being fired without even receiving your salary? Could you?”
He nodded. “No, I could not.”
“But please don’t tell Granny about this, or she will worry again.”
“Alright, but how will you thank me?”
“What do you want?”
“Go cook. I am hungry.”
Helplessly, she picked up the apron hanging on the wall and got ready to go to the kitchen. As she turned around, she turned around and asked, “What do you like to eat?”
He approached Barbara and smiled slightly as he replied, “Whatever you make.”
He was good-looking, with a smile as refreshing as a spring breeze. Meanwhile, his gaze was so deep that one might be enchanted.
She blushed and slammed the kitchen door shut, hiding away from him.

Mike’s face was still bruised when he got off work. Having suffered from the embarrassment of getting beaten up, his manager also scolded him for the data loss caused by Olivia breaking the laptop. Therefore, he was in a bad mood today.
He blamed everything on her, and even though he had reported her to the police, there had been no update so far.
Initially, he could secure the deputy manager position if he had successfully closed this deal. However, he decided to take a risk and ended terribly because of that bitch. In his mind, destroying one’s prospect was analogous to killing someone’s parents. Therefore, he wished to skin Olivia alive right now.
As Mike thought furiously, a car suddenly rushed to his side. He stepped on the brakes forcefully, slamming his face into the steering wheel.
“Can’t you drive?!” He leaned out the car window, about to unleash a torrent of curses, when several men exited the car.
They opened the car door without saying a word and pulled him out.
“Who are you? What do you want?!” His heart raced with panic. These built, tough-looking men came with hostility, and it was obvious that they were coming after him.
They remained silent as they dragged him, who was struggling and begging for mercy, toward the alley.
“Buddies, let’s talk it out. If you want money, I’ll give you money! I have money!”
Before he could finish his sentence, one of the men kicked him in the chest. The pain caused him to curl up his whole body on the ground, his facial features distorted, and all the words coming out of his mouth became fragmented.
A barrage of punches and kicks followed, each one aimed at vital spots. At that point, he could not even utter words of pleading.
