He’s My Alpha by Cassandra M (Jake & Clair)
Chapter 83
Clair
“Are you ready?” Luisa asked me, holding both my hands as she stood happily in front of me.
She arrived an hour ago with two escorts. After a thorough inspection of the men with him, they were also allowed entrance at the territory but I had men following them as well. I still don’t trust Alpha Noah. But I was pleased that he did his part of the bargain.
I nodded and tilted my head to my side to look at Jenny. She looked at us with awe. She smiled at me before she opened her mouth to speak. “You looked beautiful, Luna. Oh, my Goddess! I can’t believe you’ re the Luna now. It wasn’t long ago I asked you if you like the Alpha!”
I giggled softly and looked at the full-length mirror in front of me.
I had on me a midnight blue above the knee A dress with a sweetheart neckline. It was the same color as the tie I brought for my Alpha. I wanted to match with him tonight and he seemed okay with it.
And the only accessory I had was the crescent moon necklace my father gave me.
I wanted to look natural since it would be the night that I would give myself and my heart to my mate. And I wanted him to see me as me, void of makeups and any blings. I puckered up my lips, making sure the light lipstick I had was even on my lips
before I turned around and face them again!
“I think I’m ready! But do you think my dress is okay, not too simple?”
“You looked lovely, dear. I wished I could walk you to the ceremony but then I had duties to attend. So I ‘ll see you there, Luna.” Jenny gave me a quick hug before pressing a soft kiss on my temple. She left the room before saying goodbye to my cousin as well.
“So how do we get to the Pavillion?”
“The Beta would pick me up here. Jake would be waiting there already.”
“The Beta. You mean the Beta?” She said softly as rose tint started to creep on her cheeks.
“Hmmm… Is there something I need to know? Are you interested in Beta Gavin?” My eyes widen in surprise as I clasped my hand over my mouth because there was a knock on the door at the same time.
“Ssssh… I’m not. Just that he kissed me. Not that he wanted to, he just need to. I will tell more later.” She explained in a hushed tone.
My eyes widen more, while the knocks on the door continued.
“Luna. Are you there? If you don’t answer in the next 5 seconds I will break the door.” A worried voice came out from the door.
I chuckled before pulling Luisa’s hand towards the door. “I’m here, Beta. Just a second.”
There was silence, guessed he heard me.
“Don’t break the door, or it will slam on me!” I shouted, scared that he might barge in and the door would hit us.
“Damn! You almost gave me a heart attack when you didn’t answer.” A sly grin etched upon the Beta’ s face as I opened the door.
“Sorry, I didn’t hear you the first time.” I lied. Before turning my head to Luisa. “Beta Gavin, this is Luisa. You remember her, right?”
A blank emotion flashed on the Beta’s face while Luisa’s jaw dropped open. But no one said anything. “Hmmm… you know each other or not?”
Both of them shook their heads and it confused the hell out of me.
“What’s going on? Luisa, you told me you met Beta Gavin, and he…”
“Clair!” She cut me off. “I met him but it’s not him.
And at the exact moment, Damien approached, panting his eyes focused on me. “Luna, they’re waiting for you. What’s taking you so long? The Alpha was worried already.”
“Him…” I heard a soft voice behind me and I saw Damien shift his gaze to Luisa at my back, a smile suddenly pop upon his face.
“Lady Luisa.”
LUISA “Lady Luisa.” He flashed me a tooth-wide grin that lighted up his whole face, g)
I couldn’t control my smile that my own lips curved to mirror the smile on his face.
“Beta,” I said softly, not taking my eyes off him.
I saw the man beside him, which Clair introduced as Beta Gavin raised his brow before a knowing smile tugged on his mouth.
“I’m actually not the Beta. He is.” He scratched his head before pointing to the man beside him, a shy smile now plastered on his face.
My head bobbed up in agreement even if I wasn’t sure what I wanted to relay. So he really wasn’t the Beta. But what was his name?
But before any of us could clarify more, the real Beta cleared his throat and spoke.
“I’m sure there were more questions to be asked but our Luna needs to be delivered to her Alpha. Shall we?” He put his attention back to Clair and offered his arm, and in seconds Clair was already on her way to the Pavillion, holding to the Beta’s arms.
I stood frozen in my spot, biting my lower lip until I heard him speak to me.
“Shall we? Clair just mind linked me to watch over you.” He offered his arm with that warm smile that made him more adorable.
I nodded and snaked my arm on his, walking in silence until we reached the Pavillion. I couldn’t help my heart from thudding rather too loud and I bet that he could hear it. I wanted to ask his name but it looked like he wasn’t interested in conversing with me.
Maybe I was the only one affected by our kiss. After all, he only did it to save us from more questions.
Once we were inside the ballroom, I settled myself in one of the high bar tables that were available. I was expecting that he would leave any moment, but he settled next beside me.
He took two glasses of wine from the server that passed by and offered one for me. Only then did I remember the two men my uncle sent to follow me. They were also there, a distance away from where we were but on my direct peripherals.
He followed my gaze and a smirk plastered on his face. “Simon is here. And I don’t think he likes me.” He chuckled. But he wasn’t wrong, Simon was looking at him with hostile eyes.
I rolled my eyes and took my gaze away from Simon, shifting it to him only to find him looking at me already. “Don’t mind him. He never liked anyone. What’s your name?” I asked him directly, annoyed that he wasn’t keen on introducing himself.
“Damien. My name is Damien. Not a Beta, just an ordinary wolf.” He winked at me before he shifted his gaze to the stage, just in time to see Clair walk in.
Damien. That sounds nice.
I let my eyes focus on my beautiful cousin as she walked slowly towards her Alpha.
A pang of envy crept into my chest at the sight of them. Her Alpha was looking at Clair as if she was a goddess as if she was the only person in the room, his eyes were flashing between black and its original color.
I wondered if I would ever get to experience that.
Maybe not. After all, the Alpha who wanted me was nowhere near Alpha Jacob when it comes to character. I would just be putting myself for failure if I would wish for a moment like this.
I took a deep sigh and tilted my head to the side to check on Damien, only to find him looking at me. As if I was the only person in this room. And my heart started to flutter.
